I am a great fan and wanted to share a little history from the East Coast on N1GE. It was owned by a great aerobatic pilot and national judge named Gunther Eichhorn. He even flew that aircraft one time in the unlimited category. He didn’t score well as he had to take. Several breaks just to get altitude and air speed, but he did earn his patch.

One of the flight schools at my local airport includes aerobatics as part of their flight training and say the result is a pilot fully aware of an aircrafts capabilities. They have a Pitts as well. Nice flying by the way. Thanks Rich

I think great experience to get exposure to spins. Pitts is extreme though and doesn’t match spinning in. 172 so maybe a Decathlon or Citabria better for spin/unusual attitude recovery/upset training. I love flying the Pitts though.

Wow, nothing better than Aerobatics in a Pitts. I learned in a S2A and did IAC Contests on the West Coast. My instructor Dennis Yugo use to say with two people its like flying a Decathlon. Doesn't matter, its still the best part of flying.

A good aerobatics course is the best learning experience possible. Sadly it's the skidding stall that kills, and the under the bottom spin is an eye opener with how fast the aircraft departs to upside down. Then couple that with it happens on the base to final turn at 3-500 ft. Discretion is the better part of valor.
