Flyleaf were a Christian metal band, fronted by singer Lacey Sturm... She quit the band after 3 albums - 'Flyleaf' (2005), 'Memonto Mori' (2009) and 'New horizons' (2012). Flyleaf continued w/ singer Kristen May and released 1 more album 'Between the stars' in 2014 before she quit. Lacey Sturm has made some music as a solo artist...

I got a buddy who leads a band, who toured with these guys. Said the singer was super fun/nice and really tiny. She rode on his shoulders backstage hanging out, just being silly. And he's like 6'3". lol Almost the opposite image you might get from her screams/music. She's got that very unassuming appearance. I was just talking music with him one day, and I mentioned Flyleaf. He was like, "Oh yea, I played with them." I was like, "WTF! Tell me more!" 😆 The screams here just do something for me. Even among female-fronted metal, Lacey's got some top-tier screams. "Fully Alive", though screamless, is another track worth checking out. Flyleaf had a brief run of mainstream success for a while there with these two tracks.

The only ones of those you have listed that could actually be considered "chic bands" (which typically means all female) are Kittie and The Warning; the others all have male members (either primarily, or exclusively outside of the lead singer), so none of them can be considered chic bands . Now if you're talking about female fronted (i.e., female lead singer), then there are a whole ton out there: Sister Shotgun, The Dirty Youth, The Nearly Deads, Icon for Hire, Nightwish, Within Temptation, We Are the Fallen, Kontrust, Garbage, Throwing Muses, Belly, The Breeders, Eurythmics, Yaz (or Yazoo), or old school bands like The Ronettes or The Andrews Sisters (and these are just off the top of my head) and a whole ton of others I'm not going to bother looking up at the moment. Look into more Japanese rock and metal bands if you want good chic bands, such as BAND-MAID, Lovebites, Gacharic Spin, Nemophila, Hagane, and a slew of others that I can't remember right now. Or some old classics like L7, The Runaways, Shonen Knife. Or lighter acts like Banarama, The Bangles, or Shakespeare's Sister (probably a whole ton of groups I'm forgetting about, but you should see my point).

I will preface this comment with... I've been to hundreds of concerts. Seen legends. Rush, Ozzy, Pantera, Metallica etc... the list goes on. I saw the band Seether a couple nights ago, and they brought Lacey Sturm on stage to sing this song (former Flyleaf singer). It was single handedly the best thing I have ever seen live. Was incredible. Glad you enjoyed it. It has that Alanis cuteness and Tatiana harshness. Both of your reactions are fantastic on this one. Love you guys...

Not really a forerunner; she might have helped to bring it more nainstream, but there were plenty of harsh female vocalists (including screaming and growling) WAY before Flyleaf was around (Kittie and L7, just from bands in early 2000s and 1990s respectively, and even more far before them). These sounds from female vocalists can be found back to at least the 1970s, and possibly earlier (and that's not including the female vocalists that just have a raspy voice, who could be found probably back into at least the 1800s).

Saw them open up a show in Des Moines in 06, really dug their sound. Started picking apart the lyrics, definitely not my groove, but kept listening to them for years despite the message of some of the songs. A rarity for me. Their sound inspires strong emotions.

I love how Brad is always over there about to pop a nerve trying to get a read on what the song is about, analyzing the lyrics. Meanwhile Lex is partying like it's 1999 just vibing out to the music. I got to see Flyleaf live when they were one of the many bands at the Family Values Tour. Them, 10 Years, Stonesour, Korn of course. It was an amazing show. I would be beyond tickled if you guys would check out Tsunami Bomb. Lots of good tracks from them but my personal favorite is probably Swimming Through Molasses.

On top of all of the great Flyleaf recommendations given below, I would like to request for you to check out Apocolyptica featuring Lacey Sturm on the song "Broken Pieces"; it's a favoritefor me. Apocolyptica is a heavy metal-typeband formed of three classically trained cellists (and a jazz drummer) who started out doing Metallica covers in 1993, but went on to produce a lot of original music. They frequently do collaborations with some singers from major bands (including Gavin Rossdale from Bush, Brent Smith from Shinedown, and Adam Gontier from Three Days Grace, just to name a few). Fun fact: Three of their songs ("I Don't Care" with Gontier, "Not Strong Enough" with Smith, and "Broken Pieces" with Sturm) use the same characters and scenery in the official music videos; not sure what exactly the meaning behind that is, though.
