I have this same pocket hole jig and I love it, mine has none of those issues. For dust collection I jut put my 4" hose next to it and it's fine. As far as depth stop adjustment, if I remember correctly the owners manual tells you to put the bit with the guid on into the drill guied holes then lift the drill bit until it just comes off the base plate about 1/16" and then secure the collar. I never used the included Allen key because I have full sets of T handle wrenches. It's a good jig, looks you got one with some issues, send it back for a new one

Wen is some of the first tools I purchased when getting into woodworking. I own the 13” planer, drill press, dust filter, and their portable sander. Every product I have been happy with and have used them for years. I have started to replace some of them as I get more into my craft. Over on 731, Matt does a full review on all of their measuring tools he rates them very high. I’ve never used their pocket hole jig I use armor’s pocket hole jig. I love it I replaced Craig’s pocket hole jig for it. Thanks for sharing your videos are always entertaining

"WEN" was an American economy tool company when I was a kid (1960's), one step ahead of Black & Decker; now it's a zombie brand, the name having been purchased by some foreign company. "Skil" is as well. Having said that, I agree that both are making some pretty good tools for the money. I am considering the Skil router kit to fill out my router collection (PC, Craftsman, and Milwaukee), as they're not bad for $150, and I don't really want to spend stupid money for Iron Turd, Botch, Makita, or Milwaukee.

I’ve been happy with Kreg jigs since the 90’s, but on a lark and with a coupon I purchase the Harbor Freight “Drill Master” jig, which is surely Kim to the WEN and you missed the one negative that I thought for sure you would mention. I’m assuming you didn’t drill a single pocket hole with it or you would have screamed about how ragged the edges of the holes are due to the fact that the jig isn’t supporting the bit where it meets the wood. Nope, the bit is just floating out in space, unlike the Kreg jigs which supports the bit all the way to the wood surface. I’ve been very pleased with the value that many of the new WEN tools deliver, but as you demonstrated, there’s an occasional ugly sister in the family.

The Wen/Acne name thing was gross and funny! 😅 I looked into Wen a while ago because they seemed to make good tools at a good price. Turns out they're an old (established 1950 in Illinois by Nick Anton) American company who (like almost everybody else) has tools manufactured in China. One thing that really convinced me was seeing the difference between their small drill press and others. Not only is the casting thicker and beefier, there's a lot less play in the spindle/quill.

And a rule is a regulation of conduct. Straight edge marking tools with increments of measurement may be either a rule or a ruler depending on where the scale starts. A ruler has a Zero reference inset from the edge. A rule has no zero reference, and the scale starts at the edge. In this case you are correct, because the scale does in fact start at the edge. However, using the terms interchangeably is common. In calling it a ruler he didn't actually break a rule. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXWZqoSXjZaMfdE

Ummm.. just sliding over a square for parallel doesn’t show anything.. just means the ruler is machined faces are parallel. You need to flip the square to check it for actual square.

You are aware that WEN is an American company right? Yes the tools are made in China, but the company itself is American. WEN's headquarters can be found in West Dundee, Illinois.

Yep, I am now. I guess I was initially confused. Thanks so much for sharing. If I would have said they were american made, people would have complained about them being made in china... Kind of a no win situation! :)

Just an FYI, wen is an American based company. The name means "New", just spelled backwards. Standing for the innovative tech they have integrated into their tool lines. They are located in Illinois. Their tools are made from all over the world. From Taiwan to the United States. You should have done a tiny bit of research before making this video...

In the category of 🌈✨fabulous lady woodworkers ✨🌸, I’ve been thinking recently about ways we each “perform” our gender, and in my case I’m pretty dang girly, I wear exclusively skirts and mostly super bright colors, I love pink and purple… AND ALSO… I’ve never worn makeup outside of Halloween, I’ve never worn high heels for more than five minutes, and I own two table saws and just one janky, falling apart, twenty year old hairbrush (priorities ☺️🪚)! Anybody out there who wants everyone to stick to super rigid gender roles is MISSING OUT on so much fun and I feel bad for them!

@ there’s a great episode of The Moth from a billion years ago in which one of the storytellers is tasked with finding a pink bike for his son (which turns out to be surprisingly hard if you don’t want something specifically branded, just a plain pink bike), and he’s having some existential feelings about this pink bike, and he ends up realizing that the problem is not the pink bike per se, but an unexpected wave of nostalgia trying to take control of the situation: it’s not that James doesn’t want his son to have a pink bike, it’s that he wants Oliver to have a RED bike, “LIKE I HAD”! I love the idea that even parents who are deeply committed to raising kids who are their own people, and never forcing them into some kind of predetermined mold, will inevitably run up against these moments where they just want their kid to step in and fulfill a long held dream of what having a kid would be like, JUST THIS ONCE 😆!

@@stellabelikiewicz1523 My son, the one who likes pink really doesn't seem to think it is a "girls" color. Which is great actually. A boy in my day would have been made fun of for saying such a thing, but it's nice and refreshing to see that kids (at least the ones my son hangs out with) don't seem to care as much about that sort of stuff. I'm quite open minded about all of that stuff, and just want everyone to be themselves and be happy!
