Lorne was quoted an article in the New Yorker that he’s still a fan of Shane’s and that he loved his special. Half the writing staff are comedy cellar regulars that respect him. @portlandgoose4727 Hader was above avg for sure but I think he shined more because snl had/has sucked so God awful bad for 20years he was about the only thing keeping snl still categorized as a comedy show on cable tv & not changing their designation to dark drama series... at times it's been hard to tell the difference.. it's been so gd hard to watch & in the last 5 years even most bad yt skit shows with no budget are funnier than snl & the good ones are waay funnier

Agreed, however they get a pass because the podcast is a heavy SNL centric podcast and obviousy theyre two of SNL's greats. A lot of their guests and topics revolve about the older days at SNL. Also their audience is a very different audience than the likes of all the big, younger comedians now, so it introdices a lot of newer faces to Shane and gives them a little background on him. It was definately repetitive old news for us, but I bet 80% of their viewers it was all new.

If you thought his lo-fi standup was edgy then you haven’t seen his sketches. He’s the best young comedian in the past decade, and at this point has made millions touring. SNL would have ruined him. His special reminded me of those old comedy albums with drinks clinking together and people coughing. You feel like you’re in the club with them. Even Netflix is just becoming hack. I’ve had to turn off most of their specials recently. Sponsorships are a form of censorship, also the government controls the weather.

Carvey and Spade are legends, but this was a bad interview. It picked up once they started riffing and telling stories, but you could tell they didn’t really know who they had on. Shane is the man, which they quickly found out. But by the time they found their chemistry as a trio, the pod ended 😢 Not meant to be a shot at two of the best to ever do it, just an observation. If they had taken the time to really dive into Shane’s body of work, the whole thing would’ve been great, instead of just ‘having its moments’ imo

@@WKRP187 it was a surface level interview any way you slice it. Hosts clearly read a few Shane Gillis headlines, watched a clip or two from his stand up & viral sketches, and let it rip. Nothing wrong with that (Dana and Spade probably have so many better things to do than dive into a Gillis wormhole for hours). My point & reason for commenting: it would’ve been much better with a little more work put into it

@@WKRP187 also, the interview is for the audience, not the host. People aren’t going to learn anything new about Shane from this interview, bc the hosts were behind the 8 ball

This episode already has more views than almost all of their other episodes. First time viewer and new subscriber. I know I’m not the only one. Wouldn’t be surprised if they get 10-20k new followers from this.

Spade and Carvey finger on the comedy pulse 'discovering' Shane Gillis... 🤣

They're not trying to discover him. The point of the podcast isn't to feature new comedians. They're basically creating an oral history of SNL. His story is notable.

I felt like spade and carvey still think snl is the pinnacle to success. “You can’t say that anymore.” No, you can. Snl doesn’t allow it anymore. Comedy has moved past snl. There’s been a shift.

I appreciate someone finally giving Shane the courtesy of saying he was doing an impression of a racist. They finally did research and provided context, as opposed to all the other pods he was on. Gillis is the funniest man on the planet right now. Keep climbing, dawg. SODTOAE.
