Hello from Norway. I am a new RC plane pilot,with zero flight time. I have bought both the Paladin and the ASW28. And the Ranger 2000 Volantex.I am now putting the planes togheter,ready to take off. The weather here is very cold and strong wind,so i must waith for calm conditions. I am in fear about the first flight, hoping not to crash and total destroying the planes. It was fun to see your video,using the same radio and plane.

Hi there up there in Norway :) How are things with the you know what debacle over there? And welcome to the hobby ofcourse! I will give you one piece of important advice: before trying to fly any RC, accept you are probably going to crash it.. if not now, most likely at Some point... That is not to strip you of hope.. just make the experience more relaxing (you have already accepted losing it).. For first launches it can be especially handy to have someone else Throw the plane.. (I make things look easy).. Having said that: planes like the Ranger are the best kinds of planes to start out with :) AND thank you! Glad you liked the video :) (I have a video on the Ranger 1600 somewhere as well ;))

Thank you for the information, I really enjoy your videos! I'm still very new to the hobby and one thing that I've noticed with just about every part that I have purchased for my drone build comes with very little instructions if any at all. And the instructions that do come with it are often rather vague don't tell you enough. I recently purchased the PL18 tx and I'm trying to get it all set up properly and it's been a challenge to say the least. But the radio TX came with 2 receivers, the FTr10 and FTr16s and I was wondering if you know if they can work together with one of them set up as a PWM converter?

Howdy! thank you very much ofcourse and welcome to the hobby :) you are Correct.. good manual are few & far between.. With the level of English of our Chinese friends I suspect they actually do us a favour by not making manuals :P And: writing manuals costs money..... Most any radio does coming with a learing curve (at least the ones I've had) but at least in the case of the PL18 it is wurth the time :) Sooooo you want to use both receivers in one airplane? That is possible yes.. it would not be like you then have 26 channels though :$ But other then that, you can use 2 receivers at the same time IF... you don't need telemetry..... that is the thing you will lose when using more then one receiver at a time...

I always wondered why the Nirvana does Not run on that protocol (the Noble radio isn't all that much newer and allso part of their new higher-quality family of radio's).. It should actually be possible to replace the internal module of the Nirvana :) so who knows.. maybe there will be a conversion kit at some point :)

Hello, Thankyou for the information. I have just bought a Paladin PL18 and want to use the full 16 channels. The instructions show how to wire up the FTR16S, but not how to wire it into anything after that. Does it somehow hook into the servo plug area on the FTR10? Then is it the same and as simple as setting up the aux channels 5 - 10? Apologies, I am a novice in this area and any advice appreciated.
@DutchRC
@DutchRC 4 жыл бұрын
Howdy :) Wellllllll here is the deal: that FTR10 is a 10-channel receiver right? BUT the iBus portcan in fact output all channels.. you could make use of that with a Sbus to PWM converter board.. So that is then the Receiver end.. on the transmitter end there really are All kinds of ways to actually adress those channels.. With mixes.. special features (such as flaps / airbrakes).. or indeed manual setup of Aux channels :)

Are you saying the antenna's must be placed on the outside of the aircraft to get proper reception? I have never heard of that from any radio mfg'er, except when using a carbon fuselage. I was interested in trying this radio until you made that comment. Please verify. Thanks
@DutchRC
@DutchRC 4 жыл бұрын
Howdy :) that comment is not specifically about This radio.. There are several materials that will adversely affect reception.. Wood.. Carbon fiber.. metals.. anything with moisture in it.. Apart from that however you will want to place the antenna as far away from wires (servo wires for instance) and the flight battery..

Great video!!! So with the 301 module the radio comes with it should be low latency(5ms). How precise did it feel with low latency? Or did it feel like any other radio? Was the signal good at all times during the flight? Any telemetry used?

This setup (the PL18 with AFHDS3 module) is the fastest / most responsive setups I've used. I would say it is probably the same or faster as Futaba FASSTest setups.. Yes for FPV drones you automatically get all kinds of telemetry from your quad.. With a receiver like the FTr10 you would have to add extra sensors :)

Hello! Voltage sensor CVT-01 and altitude sensor CAT-01 (a bit trickier to find) are, IMHO, the most useful to fly winged aircrafts. I am very curious to know if the PL-18 has a vario function.
@DutchRC
@DutchRC 4 жыл бұрын
Howdy :) Yes the PL18 indeed has a vario feature.. Can't test it myself, but I guess it was important to them as the feature was there since early beta's...
@pierauspitz
@pierauspitz 4 жыл бұрын
@@DutchRC That's great! And Flysky telemetry sensors are very cheap as well ( can find battery voltage for 3-4€, the altitude sensor is about 7-8€), but they do not have current draw sensor (maybe one day?) It seems full of potential for glider and plane pilots! I am very curious to see a side-by-side with a x9D a Horus 10 or a Jumper t16 for exemple... However, there are some things that bother me about the Paladin: -Not retaining native afhds2a compatibility. I know progress is progress, but this seems like a very bad strategic mistake. This protocol became quite a world standard, nearly everyone has (or has had) afhds2a gear. The receivers are excellent, have perfectly adequate range for 99,99% of flying (LOS), abundant (by types, form factor and numbers) and low priced. This is issue compounded by the very poor offering of afhds3 receivers, especially PWM types (so for winged aircraft flyers) and their low availability, even today. And the super long range is a completely irrelevant, considering the current EU regulations, where most flying is, by law, LOS (even FPV requires an observer with LOS on the aircraft). -the proprietary module bay is also an enigma/bad move, especially when there are no other modules than the afhds3 for sale. And the clumsy module bay adapter isn't available anyway. -Staying away from Open TX. This is the biggest mistake yet. The current firmware might be very good, but you do not turn your back to an industry standard, especially when the reputation of your gear still needs to be established in this tier of RC equipment. I love the look of this radio. I really am interested in the hardware quality and the potential it has, but the 3 issues above are , for the time being, deal-breakers to me. Buying the Paladin is buying into a whole new system, but a poorly supported and "gimmicky" one (its selling points are actually niche applications that 90% of potential customers will never use). In this case, why not going for the better reputed, better supported and similarly priced Frsky or Jumper?
@DutchRC
@DutchRC 4 жыл бұрын
@@pierauspitz Because at least Frsky is a horrible company that will screw you over ? :D and the radio electronics of Frsky are so-so at best.. I agree though Flysky has made some weird choices though I'm sure they had their reasons.. I actually have a module-bay for my PL18 by the way :D but.. I don't use it.. they should have (indeed) made a AFHDS2 micro-module.. I understand why they didn't, but it would have been nice.. ON that why: they make hardly any $$ on the transmitter.. maybe they even sell it at a loss.. (don't know).. so the money has to be made on the receivers.. Well guess what? loads of clone AFHDS2 receivers around.. so that doesn't work either.. Still.. I very much like the speed of AFHDS3.. I don't need the range indeed.. but it does provide ease of mind..
@pierauspitz
@pierauspitz 4 жыл бұрын
Dunno about FrSky being bad... Never heard anything bad about their gear, that tends to be universally lauded. As for customer service, it's a Chinese company... Caveat emptor (and as far as my experience goes, Flysky is far to be the greatest at customer service and gear support too). But I would be glad to hear more about the speed of AFHDS3, because the only info concerning it is that Flysky claims it to be faster, but without any hard evidence (ie numbers) to back that claim. More over, AFHDS2a was already pretty good, and a gain of 10-20 ms will not matter anyway as our brains can't process info that fast... It seems to me that there is a lot of pointless pissing contest with RC latency these days. Reminds me the TV pixel race... Oh well... To me, it looks more like afhds3 is a "FrSky Access" move, trying to regain exclusive control of a protocol at the expenses of long term customers. The "longer range and better speed" claims (because so far, this is only what they are) being just a facade. Call me cynical, but I am always weary of extravagant claims for things that simply don't matter. But I remain open-minded and am very curious to hear your point of view and informations on the matter. BHowever, please spare the "selling at a loss" story. It simply does not hold water. We are talking RC gear there, not Gilette razors. In an already quite saturated market, the volume of potential sales is simply not that large and very few people buy more than a handful of receivers anyway. And receivers are not really what you would call "consumables", so there is not much potential margin to recover losses... I may be wrong, but lower cost usually comes from R&D and components, and I am very curious to see a side by side tear down with a Horus and/or one of its clones (like the Jumper T16). I agree we all earn our money and do with it as we please, but I like when things are told without sugar coating or partisianism. Like many other current rc enthusiasts, I started with Flysky gear (afhds2a, FS-I6x) and am very satisfied with it (flying winged aircrafts and helis in line of sight). I would love to be able to use a higher quality transmitter now that I dipped a toe, and having only 3 linear mixes is starting to be too limiting. The Paladin seemed like a match made in heaven, BUT, AFHDS3 only... This is simply is too stupid! Instead of offering customers a possible progression via gradual upgrades, ensuring long term relationships, one has to completely re-equip (minus the sensors, but those cost peanuts anyway). If this is the only choice offered, going the "Taranis X9D SE w/ multiprotocol module" is a much safer and infinitely more flexible choice. All this for barely any more money and with much better support (parts availability, mod potential, constant improvement of firmware and a huge user community etc etc)...

Hi there, Great flying with the Volantex / Flysky combination!! And the landing was spot on. I know from the Phoenix it’s quite difficult to drop it as it glides on and on, even with the flaps on. With this receiver I have hooked the Flysky voltage sensor FS-CVT01 and it works flawlessly. Simply hook it up in the appropriate PWM connection port of the receiver and it automatically reads out at the transmitter. You just push the sensor field on the screen of the transmitter and you will find all data there. Only the text letters are a bit small to read for me (reading glasses for me🤓). There is a 4ch receiver afhds3 protocoll receiver called FS-FGR4S but it’s for the Noble. Doesn’t that work on the Paladin ? I know it’s range is way less but for a small parkflyer might be enough.

That shop however send it really quick and the price was only a couple of euros, I bought a handful. For me it's always exciting to land to Phoenix, I have to fly over a fence and then land it in the grass field in front of my house. I really have to force it to the ground even with the flaps fully engaged. The 'noble' receiver it's intended for ground use of course and is stated with 200 mtrs range.
