I just bought one. I like it, I had to buy the JR adapter and AFHDS2 module as well. Its not perfect and there are several things I would have liked differently but considering how insanely cheap it is I'm wiling to look over those things. Also several complaints I had were easily remedied with some of the available accessories which were very cheap as well. I do like how youc an power it through the USB port. And youc an change out the built in battery it just requires disassembling the radio, which if you're in this hobby should be no problem for you.
@hape44 жыл бұрын
Exactly, most complaints about this radio can be easily worked out, like the adapter. The battery inside for me it's a way better solution than a battery that can be taken out but rattles or needs to be packed with foam to avoid that. And who flies 6 or 8 hours without a pause? With my bad eyes I think the screen text is sometimes too small especially in bright sunlight. And the sunshade is cheap and prone to break.
@AndrewNewton4 жыл бұрын
Power through the USB port! Nice one. Good to hear the internal battery is easily swapped too.
@hape44 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reviewing this radio. I have it for about 7 months now and I still like it. Most of your review I agree upon however I think the battery fixed inside is a plus. First it's better not to always have to unplug for charging because connectors do wear out. Second I hate it when the battery rattles inside so you have to use foam to stop that (for a while). If the fixed battery fails in time a new one can be installed easily enough. And who flies 4 hours without stopping? It's rated at 8 hours...

Thanks for the shout out! I still really like the quality of this radio, I just set up my new LOS plane on it... lol I do miss some things from OpenTX though, and I would LOVE it if they every got OpenTX running on this one. I've seen some discussion about it, apparently the PL18 uses the same CPU that's in the T16/TX16S and Horus. It wouldn't be terribly difficult to port OpenTX to run on it, but it would need some cooperation from FlySky. You could open it up and map the pinouts and figure that part out, but they would need to provide some info on their internal protocols to support the FlySly modules. I'm guessing it would have to be after OpenTX gets the touch interface up and working too obviously. I think it would make this already nice radio a top contender for a lot more people if it happened though... ;) Anyway, I'm looking forward to your thoughts after flying with it!

I'm not in the market for a new radio, but I like to see what's new. And I'm always AMAZED (and not in a good way) at what the design peeps come up with. They start out with the best of intentions, listening to what experienced users and prospective buyers actually want and need... and then they open things up to a focus-group of toddlers. This looks like a perfect mix of air-punching (YES!) and face-punching (Nooooo!) features. Designed by committee. It's not my idea of a flagship product. It's mid-way between Faberge and Fisher-Price. Is it a particular cultural phenomenon that makes it seem a good idea to infantilise products in the East? Coloured lights? Garish graphics? Dodgy fonts? Go-faster stripes? Stop it! It's like those bizarre kitchen-sink T-shirt slogans: 'Always Timing Hero Jet Powerful Cat Zoom!!!' Er... what? If you're writing an instruction manual for international consumption, you hire a native speaker of each language to read and edit the appropriate bits to ensure that you don't inadvertently trip over an idiom and start a war. Common sense. Well, designing products for international consumption should work the same way. Get some opinions from people you trust and respect and modify things accordingly. You know - just like they did before launching the Ford Fanny Face Edsel - Oops. Anyhooo, the thing about China is: it's inconceivably vast. No doubt FlySky can get by selling hundreds of millions of its splendid Always Timing Hero Jet Powerful Cat Zoom!!! radios to its local market , but if it wants to sell internationally, it needs to dump those teenaged focus-groups. A ruined reputation can take a long, long time to heal. I know mine will (sob, sniff).

The o.s in the Paladin is very VERY similar to the FS-i10, setups are sooooo easy with the touchscreen and the build quality of the high end Flysky Tx's is very good. The biggest problem with the Flysky high end radios is updates, they never come lol. i highly doubt that more than one firmware update will ever be released for the radio and if its hardware is anything like the i10 which i suspect it probably is due to the O.S, the radio will be running custom flysky marked chips inside and cutome firmware will be impossible (like with the i10) because independent developers wont be able to reverse engineer the hardware to write custom firmware for it which is a real shame. My i10 feels 10x more rubust than my T16 and TX16s and the pots are much better quality and retractable! Another thing i prefer about my i10 is the size, its got the standard footprint for a tx but its literally half the thickness of the t16 and holding the T16 feels like holding a brick when your used to the FS-i10 lol I run external antennas on my i10 and amplify the signal on each antenna to 2w, long range and cloud surfing on 2.4ghz is no problem with my FS-i10 :) All in all, if not being able to install custom firmware or run OpenTx on the radio is not a concern, the high end flysky radios are very well constructed and i recommend them.

Very nice but at a cost of course that removes it from the bargain category of the FS-i6 (which for me is only let down by lack of mixes. Shame none of the firmware upgrades added more) A 6 position rotary switch would have been useful instead of all those pots. And that colour changing thing ? What was the designer smoking that day. Can you seriously not turn it off ?

Um the 10 channel mod adds 2 mixers so you have 5 then

It looks very good for under 300 usd, but the none replaceable battery is a big deal. If cared for the electronics would be good for decades, but the battery would last 3-5 years. When it comes to high end stuff the business people of the company should be kept out of the boardroom, coz you don't wana compromise the product with their idiotic ideas.

I guess it's easy enough to change battery once it starts to lose capacity. Just a few screws.

Yes of course soldering a couple of wires. What I said was more of a general comment.
