@@Thefeatherbender I think there are people who just do it because they can and maybe they think they are hurting your status, when in fact they are not. I figure that when you start getting these strange thumbs downs, then you are as Steve Martin once said, "Somebody!!!!" 😁🤣

Just purchased from Amazon Barry. It looks fantastic so no disappointment! Just to make you aware because I'm not sure if you have any input over the postage?, but the hardback arrived in a simple brown envelope and had been damaged in transit. I had to return it for replacement by Amazon. The second copy arrived in a cardboard envelope which luckily was not damaged in transit. I wish amazon would at least use a nice padded envelope for their books in transit. Jim @@Thefeatherbender

Thanks for posting Barry! Synthetics have their place (when you want glitz and glimmer) but natural furs give a whole gamut of length and texture to work with - even on one hide.

Top notch tutorial, Barry! Well done! How would you make a scruffy spiked nymph body with hare’s ear dubbing ( already off the mask and in a bag). The techniques shown here assume you cut the fur from the hide. If you have some other video you can point me to, I’d appreciate it! Thank you.

Hello Barry. First i would like to tell you that your videos have been great! I've just recently started to tie my own flies and your videos have helped me a lot. As we're at the beginning of the season and larvas are working, could it be possible to get a video from you how to use UV glues? Would be great if you could show how to layer them, how to mix them, how to add some glitter and colour and how to properly apply them to get a thicker coating. Thanks, Lasse

Thanks, Barry! Superb tutorial. I read somewhere that fur from tanned hides is not as good for dry flies as fur from untanned hides because tanning destroys the natural oils. I've noticed that fur pieces I get from fly tying supply shops are untanned. Do you have an opinion on which is best?
@kerrypitt9789

May I add something to your question as well? You can tell me to bugger off and I'm not trying to be Barry, I have his book and though I have been tying since 1969 I always learn something new. With fur it is really important to check it for length and density. Fur is better when taken from animals that have a winter coat. Deer hair, Elk hair etc as well though there is use for all of it. Untanned in my opinion is the best fur to buy but it is not always available.

Thanks David, well tanning not that bad, but dying is even worse. Some producers with CDC wash it, and hot dye it, which removes ALL the natural preening oil, so they treat it with silicone to make it float again...? If you can get natural un-treated furs they are the best.

well i see further on you use wax. I still have trouble with clumping.
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, If I understand you correctly, your problem is too much clumps of wax getting on the tying thread when you apply it? If its a deodorant type applicator that your wax is in, this is so its easily fixed. You have too much wax sticking out of the end, depending on if you have a screw or push applicator, you need to get the head of the wax back down into the tube so its level with applicator rim. This stops clumps of wax being pulled off with the thread when applied. Easy when you know how. Let me know how you get on Rob.
