Dang. You guys made this look easy. After following this, I realized why you recommend to leave the screws off. Total PITA. In hindsight, it may have just been easier to jack each corner up and remove the wheel and fender liner to gain access. Trying to contort my body, arms and hands inside the fender liners took me probably just as long.

Yeah, sometimes the struggle of a shortcut takes the same time as removing more parts. For us.....this way works well.

Great video. Got mine today, got all 4 of them done in about 30 minutes. Side marker lights were a piece of cake and i didn't even remove any carpet in the rear - just the back trim piece and 4 of the little retainers so I could just move the carpet out of the way. One of the tail light LED strips slid right into place, I had to fight the other one for about 5 minutes to get the correct orientation at the end. Little inexpensive but high quality mods like this are my favorite ones to do, thanks for offering these!

A couple things that don't appear in the video. 1. The prep work involved removing the screw from the OEM piece before removing. That happens to be the real challenge. Depending on your dexterity it can be quick and EZ or long and frustrating, especially on the back lights. 2) when he twists off the OEM that quarter turn, the bulb has already been removed in the video. You need to pop out the bulb to plug in the wires,

Are the side reflectors powered, on the US model ND2s? I've never actually looked before, and don't really feel confident DIY'ing the wiring for them, so that determines whether I'd make the purchase and send them to a shop to be wired by professionals.

You can get the "diffuser" (it's not really functional) from Rev9. The exhaust is part of the V8 conversion fitted to this car.

I am looking into your LED brake lights and had a question. On lets say the popular halo headlights, some people can use the ring as a sort of DRL. The only way to do that on a 1.6 is to wire it in to the parking lights. Is there a way so when I turn the parking lights on the brake lights won't stay on? I want to use it like a DRL but driving with parking lights is illegal in colorado.
@FlyinMiataVideo4 жыл бұрын
If you want to run lights with the ignition, just connect them to a switched power source. If you're feeling very ambitious, retrofit the Canadian DRL wiring. 1994-97 cars have a much easier time because you can just plug in the DRL module. Note that the brake lights do not come on with the parking lights, the taillights do. They're significantly less bright.
@graham_lewis4 жыл бұрын
@@FlyinMiataVideo Thanks. yeah i saw that the 1.8s had the same wiring harness as the canadian ones with drls. I would like to have the option to turn the lights off or on while the car is running. I think i meant tail lights instead of brake lights. is there any way to make the tail lights not turn on when the parking lights are on?
@FlyinMiataVideo4 жыл бұрын
@@graham_lewis You're looking at it backwards. What you want is a way to power the front lights without turning on the rears, not preventing the rears from coming on when they're supposed to. For one, that latter situation has a bad failure mode when you forget and you start driving around at night with no taillights. It's very easy to make the front lights come on with a switch and the ignition. You just need a switch. If you also want the front lights to come on with the parking lights, that's also easy. You might need to toss a diode in there, I'd have to check the wiring diagram. But the basic concept is about as complicated as a flashlight. Step 1 is to figure out exactly what behavior you want (DRLs on with ignition, or when the headlights are up but not turned on, or only when the ignition is on but not when the parking or headlights are on, etc) and then work out what combination of switches and power you need to get there. If you're not comfortable with wiring, grab a friend.
@graham_lewis4 жыл бұрын
@@FlyinMiataVideo Yeah that makes sense. I was trying to think of a fairly stock and simple way to connect the front lights and the halos work the headlights. Yes i was originally planning on running one or two aftermarket lights. I feel pretty comfortable with wiring I’ve done a couple lights with my dads jeep. Do you guys offer some kind of switch panel?
@FlyinMiataVideo4 жыл бұрын
@@graham_lewis If you want the halos to come on when the headlights up are, I believe one of the wires to the headlight motors is hot when they're up so you could use that to trigger a relay. You might have to spend a bit of time with the wiring diagram. Sorry, we don't have any switch panels.

tho no "details later" on the wiring of the lights on NA/NB..
@FlyinMiataVideo4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the missed info. The NA's don't need any additional wiring. He was specifically talking about wiring for the un-lit NB rear corner lights. We were planning on offering a kit and instructions to light the NB rear options, but we do not have an ETA. This can easily be done with some simple wiring. Feel free to drop us a message at support@flyinmiata.com if you need help with the details.

I know Yowzoe is looking for a percentage but, as I have not seen the clear lights in person I cannot a comparison. What I can tell you is that I just installed the smoked version on my 19 mx5 and they look amazing against the soul crystal red paint and they are a magnitude of order brighter than the stock bulbs. I can’t imagine how bright the clear version must be. Very happy with their performance.
