FM23 Transfer and Contract Tips

After the massive success of my last video on recruitment focuses: • FM23 Recruitment Focus... I am back to essentially carry on the story and how I take those scouted gems and create a transfer deal which wont break the bank. I also then go into contract negotiations and show a few ideas on how to get players on long term deals which are very useful in Building a Nation saves.
This video covers:
Asking Agents for details
Transfer offers including how to hit the range.
Contract negotiation including how to get up to 8 year deals and what clauses can help give you leverage.
This is by no means a definitive guide and is mainly aimed at building a nation type saves but these tips can be used across most saves and formats but it's worth also watching other guides to cover things like transfers that expand over 11 years, how to break the dreaded "you will have to add something more to make my client interested" and how to free up the option to remove a release clause by walking away and asking an agent to rethink.
It is possible to get players for less than what this video shows by just asking the minimum and seeing what they say but that does open up the risk of them asking the moon thinking you're taking the piss or locking in clauses or just plain leaving. In those cases you can just withdraw offer and then go straight back in (to remove locked clauses etc.) but going into that detail would have made this video probably an hour!!!

I am going to cover selling players and loan transfers in my building a nation video coming up soon but for now, I hope this shallow dive into transfers and contracts can help you get your team (and maybe nation) the players you need to hit that next level.

The original reason for doing it I believe is no longer part of the game but if you want to extend the contract beyond the maximum you can give them at their age it’s a very easy way of achieving it.

Activating release clause and canceling bid is there in fm 23 as well

Cheers. I’ve not been put in a position to need to use it this season. That being said players are usually demanding new deals before I can trigger the extension too!

I'd like a video on how you sell players for most money, i've been offering out 'unspecified' see what clubs offer first time, always then reject but offer out on a 'locked' fee higher than the original offer and just keep rejecting but keep offering out with the 'locked' fee until i get what i want. Seems to work well, but always interested to see what other people do.

This is in the works although with the TransferRoom coming in FM24 I might hang fire until then. I haven't got a foolproof way to guarantee getting rid of deadwood every time.

Nice video. But if you needed to pay using installments (because you dont have enough budget) how would you structure the transfer?

Depends how exploitive you want to be. The longest way is to pay in 6x 6 monthly, 5x 6 monthly and 3x yearly. It spreads the transfer across 8.5yrs. You have to offer about 10-20% more than what they would accept straight up or the max of their asking price but it usually works. Lollujo calls it “on the never never” and SYC covered it briefly in one of his recap videos. The biggest the first payment is the less you will have to spend in total but so long as it’s not £0 up front you can usually make it work.

Very good video. I`m always learning. I like the extra years contract, but struggled to get the player to agree sometimes, but you`ve given good advice, thx

Thanks. It wont work all the time, but if it works some of the time it should help your team finances stay healthy.

but the transfer offer actually helped me, im a player that offers money knowing they will accept example player worth max of 7m, ill offer 7m but using your method the same player i got for 3.5m but in reality put that over 5 year perioud the money you can save is insane

Yeah, there's a lot of flaws in the methods I show here in certain scenarios. I'll be remaking this vid for FM24 but looking at transfers as a whole and covering the transfer lengths, clauses and low starts in better detail. There's been a few solid guides out there for FM23 from the likes of SYC and Clayts but this added a few notes others haven't mentioned.
