FMCSA to allow 18-21 year old drivers

I think this is a good thing. Many high school graduates who don't want to go to college should explore trucking but because of the federal law that they cannot drive in another state until they're 21, they won't get the full experience they need to make an important decision if they want to become a truck driver. If they're looking to make money or learn responsibility, why oppose this? I just turned 21 years old myself (I was born in April of 2001) and think 21 is an arbitrary age limit (it doesn't remove the reckless drivers over 21 either way). There are many 18, 19, and 20-year-olds who are mature and we can trust them to help us stock shelves in stores.

As long as they pass the CDL Skills Test is all that really matters.

What about if you’re 19 years old and you’ve been driving for 8 months local would this does apply to me or for the new drivers getting their CDL

The program will only apply to carriers that apply to participate and their drivers. If your carrier is one of them and wants you to be able to operate interstate, you could participate, but your carrier would have to submit your info to FMCSA and the agency would have to approve you.

Haven’t started yet. Waiting on FMCSA to publish the carrier application. We anticipate it will start in the next few weeks.

No one under 25 will get a job because of Insurance companies. You'll see. Go work for the railroad instead

They don't know responsibility at that age ( most ) they get mad or something and they will ditch the truck on the side of the road.. The don't know how to manage spending, etc.

Stfu.if they can go to the military and carry a M-16 and go fight for your fat ...... to be trucking, they should have a right to become a trucker 1st
