About the Fondation Maisons pour Étudiants Lausanne (FMEL): The FMEL is a Swiss non-profit organization of public interest, managed by a Foundation Board (www.fmel.ch/en...) (Conseil de fondation). Its mission is to design, build, and manage residences dedicated to housing students from the University of Lausanne (www.unil.ch/ce...) (UNIL), the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), and universities of applied sciences located in the canton of Vaud or under agreement (HES-VD)(heig-vd.ch/). Founded in 1961 by the City of Lausanne, the Canton of Vaud, and the University of Lausanne, the FMEL addresses the growing need for student housing. Today, the total accommodation capacity amounts to nearly 4000 beds in shared apartments, individual rooms, or studios, spread across fourteen sites, primarily located in the Lausanne area.
