I rode on these trolley's as Toddler maybe 4-5 years old in Johnstown. Johnstown Traction Company. Then came the trackless trolley then the deisel bus. Thanks for the memories.

This is such a time capsule of how we once lived, such beauty and simplicity, this is really a great compilation!

A very interesting compilation of traction movies. I enjoyed seeing the downtown shopping districts we once had before the shopping malls took a lot of their business away. Interesting to see the trestles they had to construct to cross over steam railroad ROW's. It certainly was a different world back then. In order to be more modern I feel we got rid of too much of this way too quickly. I would love to have the option of taking a street car or a passenger train instead of driving on the interstate. Thanks so much for putting this together and giving it more reality with your expertly added sound effects.

Thanks for posting this. I never knew trolleys were so noisy, but considering their tracks were often laid in the street pavements, they were subject to all the wonderful frost heaves and so forth, that make our streets just a s "lumpy" for cars. This made me wish---for the 50th time---that I'd gone into Milwaukee after I got my drivers license to ride their street railways, especially the Wells Street line across the spidery trestle that towered above "Beer Valley." I've been regretting not springing for the few dollars it would've taken for me to board the CNS&M down on Wisconsin Avenue and ride the Electroliner down to Chicago and back, definitely having an "Electro-Burger" or two along the way. Well, as my friend Denny Voight used to say, "Ve grow zo zoon oldt, zo late schmart."

Thanks fmnut. I wish trolleys were still around. I'd be happy ride in one again. My last ride was at the East Troy Trolley Museum in East Troy, WI.

Again I would love to know the locations in the reading traction segment. It would be great to do a then and now video.

Most of the Reading segment is on the Mohnton line, Lancaster Ave-Shillington-Penryn-Mohnton.

Now this is perfect for my idea of Disney's Pennsylvania Adventure at Disneyburg.

What a fascinating series of films. I have read a little about the US Interurban systems but it ia difficult to find much about them in the UK where we too got rid of electric transport in favour of the diesel motor bus all too easily. But as they say hindsight is easy. I understand some of the distances covered by interurbans were quite long - in the UK we would probably call them Inter City!

Driving was a different experience back then. I wonder what the rules of the road were when street cars and automobiles shared the same streets?
@fmnut Жыл бұрын
Same as they are today, stay out of the way, don't turn in front of them and don't follow too close. Same as you would for a city bus.

Who are the two losers who gave this video a thumbs down? Thanks for posting fmnut! 😄👍
@oldenweery75105 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why anyone would bother to hit thumbs-down on a video of this kind. I mean, if you're not interested, why click on it in the first place? And if you are interested, what's not to like, especially with sound?

the sad thing is that not only the loss of the traction lines but the larger loss of all of the factories and mills that the lines connected to,. Goodby jobs, goodby economy.
