Love this truck. Just pre ordered the Traxxas trx4m a few weeks ago and was not a fan of the other FMS trucks but this none is amazing. My first rc toy was a big foot truck in the 80's so this brings back memories. I need one so bad. Tks for the review

It's nuts how far FMS has come with their RC trucks in such a short time. Awesome scale trucks, both large and small, with an increasing number of amazing features, then the fcx24 with the portals and a two speed gearbox. Nuts. Not knocking Axial, but the Scx24 is getting kinda stale, when you see what fms is able to do. And now a freaking rtr, scale, hardbody monstertruck... Yeah, damn impressive for sure. I desperately need to get me an fcx24 or max smasher eventually.

I've got a FCX24 K5 Blazer getting delivered today. I had such a hard time hitting the 'Place Order' button without a Smasher in the cart either in addition to or in place of the K5. It wouldn't have been the first time I bought a monster truck instead of a crawler but I really wanted to get that first crawler in the fleet. I've always had a soft spot for monster trucks going back to my Kyosho Big Boss and attending Truck & Tractor Pulls with my dad when I was a kid. I have no doubt one of these will be headed to my home in the near future.

So cool! I wonder what an FCX would be like if you set it up with a locked rear and open front diff, might be useful for a rock racer or combination crawler/basher build. I did that with a slash vxl once. spool in the rear, heavy diff oil in the front, geared down with different spur and pinion, redcat camo x4 cage, and some 2.2 crawler tires I made fit on beadlock 2.2/3.0 short course wheels. it was OK at everything but excellent at nothing haha still fun as heck though.

The box reminds me of the old Tamyia boxes as a kid. Definitely a cool box art. I used to have a Kyosho USA1 Monster truck 1/10 scale with dual brushed motors. It looks just like the White Mad Smasher.

The red ramp is the Fly Wheels Ramp and can be picked up online pretty reasonably. I am still trying to figure out what the smaller black one is as it looks like it'd be a fun for an indoor ramp for winter.

Looks like a great body too make an original 1988 black stallion out of it, though with less problems then that truck had probably being an early monster truck, plenty of clips of the 80's trucks crumbling from their own weight or being so stiff they basically injured the drivers running them as they bounced across the cars they were racing over. Earthquake owned by Alan Fenstermaker‎ is another monster truck that could work for this in black. Orignal Bearfoot on the blue one maybe as well.

The portal axles on a MT seem slightly odd to me, it doesn't seem like it affects the performance either way though. It makes a lot of sense for multiple reasons for FMS to just use the complete FCX24 chassis though. The first would be keeping costs down to sell them at such a good price and of course all the upgrade parts already out for the FCX24.

Technically monster trucks have portal axles. Well gear reduction hubs. With an input gear, planetary gears, and a sun gear.
