You finally had to go and do it! You did the one plane that I have had a love for since watching a John Wayne movie of the Flying Tigers as a young kid with my father. No other plane touches my my heart more than the P-40. The second in my heart is the Spitfire.

This past weekend, I took my 7 year old son to the local field to see planes for the first time. We're in a season of life to get into the hobby together, after some difficult times. I've wanted a P-40 for decades, and this video helped me decide which one to get. We will both be learning together on a 3-ch Champ I picked up at a great price. Thank you for the channel. Also, I love the chalk board message on the electronics counter. God bless, y'all.

After watching this review I think I will go with the AR 631 reviewed in this video. I have four warbirds that I need to convert as you said from an antiquated (no AS3X or Safe) systems. I also have to finish a 20 year old Japanese Zero model. I also own 2 gas models that are old Futaba channel 52s. It was kind of funny for that old system. I found that with the June nite on grass, if you take off in safe mode, there is less nose-over. I think that is because oddly, in safe mode, there is more elevator travel. Or you can add more servo travel in the servo settings I suppose. Back the batteries up a tad too. About 1/2" back from the leading edge of the tray. Don't worry, it won't be tail heavy.

This plane is probably a touch less than the P-51 1.5m, or a touch more than the P-51 1.2m (June Nite)... ...BUT with practically all warbirds, P-factor is an issue that has to be dealt with. It tracks well in grass, but on pavement, she's a bit "hoppy"

I got my CG around 75mm and it rolls through the grass fine without wanting to tip. Yours seemed a bit tippy.
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
Well, that might be true, and I must say the grass is not super smooth here, unfortunately. If I wanted to make this my "Runway" I'd want to tamp or roll the whole thing...

On mine the ESC had an XT60 on it. And the FMS ESC killed my AR630 so it was replaced with a Smart one. I had 3 of them fail on me so I just don’t trust them anymore so I just pull them right away.
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
Why did it KILL anything? That's so strange, but sorry for your bad luck on those ESC's!
@ederdmann73473 жыл бұрын
@@BrianPhillipsRC it was a bad BEC in the FMS ESC that killed the RX. Did the same thing in my FMS Viper which comes with the same ESC so I might have just bad luck with them. I killed 2 AR630’s and one AR636B.

Love the videos, thank you so much for this. I just got my FMS 1.4 P-40B. Finished putting it together, looks amazing. But, the manual states 50-55mm as the CG, this does not seem possible. I found a few postings that noted the manual is wrong, that the CG is really 70-80mm, can you please share any insights? I am still pretty new and what the more experienced pilots in my club say is nose heavy flies bad and tail heavy flies bad ONCE, haha. Thanks for your help.
@BrianPhillipsRC20 күн бұрын
I can't recall the CG numbers, but if it's on the 1/3 way to 1/2 back from the leading edge of the wing, you should be okay. The manual is usually good, except for strange circumstances, and we'd generally make a big stink of it, if it were "way off" but I don't recall this being the case. Sorry for not having the answer on the tip of my tongue, since it's been a while since we flew this very good plane

Didn't your 1400mm P40B come with reflex installed? If so, why did you put in the AR631? The reflex is FMS version of AS3X & SAFE. You only need the AR620.
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
No, this plane didn't have the Reflex, since it was an earlier version. The new ones DO come with Reflex, and I'm aware of the Reflex, and it is good. AR620 would be fine, but if you want FULL control, you might want to think about the additional channels and telemetry with the AR8220T...but yeah, with HH would give us a 7 channel for these beauties. AR620 bit.ly/2QUlyCd - okay AR6610T bit.ly/33SYkA0 - adds telemetry AR8220T bit.ly/3rjerTs - adds the necessary channel to turn on/off Auto-Leveling and Stabilization (in no particular order) 1) Throttle 2) Rudder 3) Ailerons 4) Elevator 5) Gear 6) Flaps 7) Stabilizer Mode (See, you don't have enough if you want it to turn on and off - bummer, right!?!?) 8) Bomb Drop? LOL

OK ------------ The American Pilots under Chenault when the P-40 became famous were flying for the Chinese before America entered the War after Pearl Harbor Dec-7th. So the Aircraft had Chinese Markings, the Blue Sunburst. Sorry I did not see this until 7-12-21. Has my own P-40 back before electrics with a Gas engine.

I wish there was a 1.2m sized P40.... is this comparable with the 1.5m P-51 and the FW190 as far as size and batteries needed? So far all of my stuff uses 2200 3s packs, looking at the 1.2m P-51, and possibly the Ultimate as next plane options... This spot is awesome for anything that doesn't need your paved "runway" ...

Brian, you think a 6s 5000mAh 50C G2 would work in this plane? It's a nice looking plane for sure! You did say it was IC/5 right? Rich, the RC Informer also said when you land with flaps to shut them off as soon as your wheels hit the runway. He stated that the flaps being down creates Lift and you want to get the tail wheel down a fast as possible so it doesn't nose over. Happy Flying!!
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
YES, but the ESC is not setup for 6S. I suspect you could configure it to work right. Yes, Rich is right on grass ops, which I believe he typically does. I don't fly from grass much, but with this plane and due to the circumstances of the day, we made the decision to fly here...a bit different than our usual flying.

Brian, I hate to ask this but I'm such a noob, I picked up a P40B 1400m unbuilt from a guy (good deal) and was wondering if you could export and send me your file for the AR631 as I'm new to the whole forward programming thing and this would be really helpful for me. I'm not as experienced as you so may change the rates but having something to go by for the AS3X setup and Safe select would really help me get through it. The only reason I bought the plane is because of your video here on the setup! : ) I might have it, watched the video several times on the radio setup... Was 1X gain on the AS3X fine when you flew it, not sure I want to complicate with an adjustable gain knob. Default safe mode settings worked well?
@BrianPhillipsRC3 жыл бұрын
Rob...if you're NEW...please follow along. All the things we do, you will then also have done at least once...then you'll be unstoppable. You have to actually do it a few times, and you'll be set!!! You GOTTA do it. Trust me. If you don't you will be undermining your abilities going forward. If I go too fast, you might need to playback at 0.5X speed. This will help.

I actually slightly prefer this plane, for it's flying and performance, while the Eflite 1.5m is probably ON PAPER a better choice...I just hate the ground handling so much on the P-51 that I have to lean toward this P-40

I do, and it is some of the most rewarding moments in this journey, but it is also the hardest part of this journey too, since my time is being split in so many directions. I DO care and Megan DOES care (And we know you get it), but there will come a time that we physically can-not do it 100% any more. When that time comes, we know that some will be hurt, but our hope is that we will have a special way to keep our most loyal supporters first and foremost. Here I am, at 12:59AM on July 4th, making comments while my family is eating dinner....seriously - that's HOW crazy this thing has become. Most people don't believe me, but the REAL sacrifice, is from my family. I LOVE THIS STUFF, and my boys kinda think it pretty cool too, and Megan is super supportive, but to a limit. We're getting dangerously close to implosion, so I'm working hard to try to garner enough support to open the chute on what we have... This is harder than it looks. It's more time consuming that it looks, and it's a lot more stressful than it looks. You guys see all the "HIGHS" but none of the "LOWS"... that's not to say that there's not some great value coming to us (Finally) ...opportunities, some money (not enough just quite yet), stuff (of course...that's a BIT of a double edged sward), and relationships.... but at the end of the day, we're trying HARD to work out how to make this our REALITY. Glad you're here with us Mike. We are REALLY here for you guys ;)

I don't (YET) but would like to do it at some point. I want to fly turbine jets too...but we're just still kinda getting caught back up from a few very expensive, large capital projects, and we need to get one more done before I can invest any more big money on the runway...I need a building, which will ALSO be a REAL hangar. Next up, the runway. For now, it'll be grass strip, but I might need to do SOME of that work BEFORE we commit to a location for the building.
