Brian, get your 1400mm Pitts back out, upgrade the motor to the FMS 4258-550Kv (stock is 460Kv), upgrade the esc to an 80 amp. Use the stock 15x9 prop. It goes from 163 watts per lb to 231 watts per lb and the amp draw at full throttle goes from 52 amps to 75 amps. The extra power makes this plane fly so incredible you will not even believe it. I'm running a Liperior 6S 4500 40C pack and getting 4:30 on the timer with lots of full throttle and acros. It really wakes this plane up and makes it incredible! :) The FMS 4258-550Kv is a direct fit. Fast with unlimited vertical and still an easy flyer!

I am a full scale CFI, and can’t help myself from a good teaching point, so sorry in advance. When landing in that crosswind try the side slip technique not to be confused with the Forward slip! Add enough aileron into the wind to hold position left and right on your runway and at the same time just enough opposite rudder to keep the airplane straight with the centerline. At the moment of touchdown the upwind wheel should touch just before the other. That will keep you from scratching up that beauty! Great job and always look forward to the flying reviews.
@BrianPhillipsRC4 жыл бұрын
Totally concur with your real life principle, but easier said than done ;) In grass this thing is super easy to land, so I usually just cheat off the runway with bigger planes. Also, you have to consider the tracking on these models almost always leave a LOT to be desired...something that's definitely no exception on this Pitts....however wonderful it really is for what it is...1.4m, and well done!!!

Another issue is that with a partial charge it runs up very slowly, applying full throttle very gradually raises RPM but when it reaches topend it becomes fully responsive and then I can throttle up or down as per normal with instamt response but that initial input from idle is a slow increase, must be an ESC setting but again no details on programjing the ESC other thn setting the brake uuurgh!

Hi Brian , hope you and camera crew are well, with the fms pitts 1.4m v2 , on your video the top wing carbon fibre strut you just pushed it in . A friend told me , you need to measure the half way point on the strut , because it doesn't go to end of wing. So you could have more strut in one wing than the other. It needs equaling out between both half's of to wing. 9.5inch I think. Just thought I'd let you know before you have a wing collapse. Keep safe .

@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
They didn't come with it back when we did this plane first time, but they now come with it, and you can use a cheaper, simpler Rx... AR410 bit.ly/3z5hT75 - this one will give you throttle, rudder, elevator, ailerons...then just cheat the Reflex V2 by controlling it with one of the channels only long enough to get it in the right mode (probably stabilizer ON, I assume) then it'll stay in that mode when you disconnect it!!! This was a cool feature we found when we had to use a 4Ch on a Reflex equipped plane... OR AR620 bit.ly/3z7WDO0 - This will give you 2 more additional channels. One to change modes and thus turn on and off the Auto-Leveling, if you need / want it, and some will want flapperons...so with fixed gear, you can do that too, but you'll be giving up Stabilizer on the OTHER aileron, fyi ;) Good luck!

Love your videos. You have the best build videos by far of anyone. Has anyone told you before how much you look, sound, and act like Jack Black the actor? I would like to see you hook up the safe mode and give your opinion on how well this works on these slightly more advanced models. When I click on your link and put a plane in my wish list, then later buy it, do you still get the credit? Thank you and your wife for all the work you do to produce these great videos.

Thanks! I get that all the time, about Jack Black ;) I wonder if people are always stopping Jack on the streets, asking him - Are you Brian Phillips, of BrianPhillipsRC???!?! LOL As for wish lists, and credit. I'm actually not sure. I believe it would have to do with HOW LONG it's been since you put it in your cart. Some of our sites give us a 10 day "cookie" while others are more like 30 days...but depends on the site. Some are much more liberal in their administration of commissions, while others are very tight (like Banggood - you basically have to follow the link, and buy it... whereas Amazon, you follow the link and then end up buying some septic safe toilet paper and we get some credit - LOL). We really appreciate you asking, and want you to know that this has become a great percentage of our revenue for the channel, and everyone wins...so we push this pretty hard, and hope people get it...this is like 65-75% of our income for our hard work. We really appreciate you thinking about it, and trying to help us out! I'll follow up with our master list, and you can just click on any of them from time to time as you're shopping, if you think about it. The idea of keeping "cookies" alive is true though, so if you haven't followed a link to Horizon Hobby for a few weeks, you go back and buy from your wish list, we might NOT get credit, so possibly, click on the link before you buy the item? Thanks!

I'm thinking sometime last year... no, it was yesterday, I went to the 7 drawer cabinet that has all the broken/crashed plane extras. And I thought- "You know, you should start dividing these parts into separate drawers and label what you have in each. I broke off the circumcised tip of a clevis at the field last week and of course didn't have a replacement. (I did have my tool bag with the butane soldering iron and my crack pipe lighter that I use to light the soldering iron when it's windy and I'm on a roof) Paper clips are always in the truck. So that little tip fixing the clevis was invaluable. I also threw in to my little field backpack a few clevis's. Breaking a clevis has happened during a build, but never right before flying. Add it to the list of "Vu Je Da". (This has never happened to ANYONE ever Before") Good video as always. Very handy on the build. I was looking for a receiver for the Freewing 80mm. (I was over served at a local pub and I guess I started ordering edf's, landing gear upgrades and batteries, but forgot to order a receiver....) The AR637T is probably what would be best to help get the jet back on the ground in one piece on the maiden. (that Safe technology crutch)

I ended up buying this plane through your link because you seem like a goof and I can’t imagine you retaining gainful employment! Lol loved that comment. I’m still newer to the hobby and not the best at setting my gains on the plug and flys so I was wondering what you came up with for the gains if you don’t mind sharing them? Also I can’t decide if I want to use my spare AR637T or use my AR8020T that has all of the telemetry but no stabilizer along with the Reflex stabilization that comes with the plane, what would you recommend? Also planning to use my Avian 60 amp esc that I salvaged from a crashed plane so that I bring this model up to the times. I feel like less electronics (AR637T)would be better than connecting multiple electronics together (AR8020 and reflex) but the positive of using the reflex system is that FMS has all the settings downloadable for you. What would you recommend?
@BrianPhillipsRC2 жыл бұрын
Use your AR8020T + Reflex!!! Keep the AR637T for another plane. That sucker's expensive!!!! You don't need TWO stabilizers, in fact, that can cause other issues. you can watch the setup of any other Arrows plane with PNP+VECTOR (same thing) for help walking through the radio setup part, but with your AR8020T you can just follow the part where I stick the red and back wires into the power leads, so you DO get your PACK VOLTAGE. Here's a plane I used an AR620 + Vector, just skip to the Radio setup part... kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3XOlJSon72kmbM

@@BrianPhillipsRC Sorry to keep bothering you Brian but I have one last question because I’m having issues with the Reflex being seen by my laptop and I don’t want to leave anything to chance. Do you know if the reflex v2 that came mounted to this plane at the time of purchase came preprogrammed for this plane? When I plug it into the laptop I get a device driver error and rather than spending a bunch of time trying to find the driver needed I’d rather just fly if it is already set up. My guess would be that they set it up from the factory since it came in the plane but who knows, anything is possible. I’ve watched so many of your videos that transmitter programming is a snap and I know how to fix things now that i didn’t know in the beginning. For instance on the reflex it blinks at different speeds to let you know what mode it is in so when I powered up I normally have my B switch set to safe then AS3X then off. On the reflex it went from safe to off to AS3X and I’m a firm believer in keeping all models set to the same switches no matter what, so into the digital switch setup, changed the output to -100:100:0 and now reflex acts the same as every other plane. In the past I would have scratched my head for a day looking for the answer, so thank you a million time over Brian, you’ve helped me progress so much quicker by explaining everything like you do. And thanks to camera crew for making the planes look so great with your excellent footage. I can’t believe you don’t flinch when Brian comes in for some of the close flybys. I don't have the Reflex. That option was only available for the overseas (non-US) market...sorry if I may have misunderstood this. HOWEVER, since we started working with FMS and Arrows directly, we've had the opportunity to fly a few "Vector" stabilizers...same thing ;) SO it's great! If you buy the Pitts with Reflex, you would only need one of these Rx'es... AR620 bit.ly/2QUlyCd - Simple rx with limited telemetry - No AS3X & SAFE AR6610T bit.ly/33SYkA0 - More telemetry - No AS3X & SAFE If you want to bypass the Reflex, or don't buy it with one included, choose one of these if you want SAFE/AS3X... AR630 bit.ly/3lh5iqD - AS3X & SAFE with limited telemetry + INTERNAL Antenna AR631 bit.ly/3pYNC3c - AS3X & SAFE with limited telemetry + EXTERNAL Antenna AR637T bit.ly/3pW3u86 - AS3X & SAFE with FULL RANGE telemetry + EXTERNAL Diversity Antennas

Hey Brian, since you installed a new reciever straight out of the package into the model, I am curious as to why the reciever was not programmed? After all, I have read that when a reciever is taken out of one model into a different model, that the reciever needs to be re programmed for that particular model. I have a left over AS3X reciever that came out of the eflite p47 razorback 1.2 model. But I'm afraid to put it in the pitts model because I am not into re programming recievers off if the spectrum website. I don't want a pitts acting like a warbird. Please advise on what you did for your new reciever in a new pitts model?
@BrianPhillipsRC4 жыл бұрын
You can try it and see if the orientation of the controls are the same. If they are, you'll be off and running, and if not, you can buy a programming cable and fight with the setup...I assume you have an AR636B...which will be a pain ;( JUST MAKE 100% SURE the controls are being CORRECTED in the RIGHT direction after AS3X is activated.
@randyhardee38694 жыл бұрын
I know about the programming cable, but in order to use it there would have to be a model file for the pitts on the Spectrum website, and since the pitts is a FMS model there would be no such thing since the program files are all about all the Eflite brand models. That is why I asked you about setting up your FMS Pitts model new reciever with out programming it for a particular model, but you never answered that question!!!! The gains are set for a certain model, do how is your AS3X working correctly for your Pitts model without programming it?
@randyhardee38694 жыл бұрын
And my left over p47 reciever is a Spectrum AR636A.

When you go into the Flap menu, there's a deployment speed, which must be set for all three of the switch positions. It's not necessarially a glitch, but it's different from my DX18, that I know of. Try it out, so you're aware of the issue.

Brian, have you ever considered painting some markings on your runway/driveway?
@BrianPhillipsRC4 жыл бұрын
yes, but haven't gotten up the guts to commit. I want to extend the runway to our future building, but that may not happen for some time, so I'm torn....I want the markings, and have camera crew approval, but not sure how gaudy I want to make it... do I want it FULL on scale, or just a silver or gray spray paint...something that could be left to wear into nothing after many years, for when we sell the property, or do I want to do full white stripes with glass bead reflective, and hold short lines, and runway markers, and "X"es so real planes don't try to land on it ;) I'm just torn on it... Also, the EXACT heading of the runway numbers is not 100% clear to me, so I want the numbers to be accurate.
@DC.4 жыл бұрын
@@BrianPhillipsRC If you can take a compass and stand in the direction parallel to your driveway you'll have your numbers. If your compass shows a 200 degree heading, your runway will be RWY20 and the other direction will be RWY 02.

Get out the iron with steam function to flatten that wrinkled manual out. I was cringing when you shook that battery tray without shelf liner installed on it, but of course that's not the big issue as that battery tray can just slip backward during flight and ruin your day. The key to getting the CG right on this one is to fly it starting with the battery centered on the tray and adjust forward or back depending on how it performs in the 45 degree roll to inverted upline. If it climbs out like mine did, move the battery (4000mA) forward in the tray until it either requires no down elevator to maintain the upline or tails off slightly requiring a small amount of down elevator to maintain upline. There is a disparity between owners where the CG is because some say it's right on that aft cabane mount point and others say it's at that 125mm point well forward of that point. My guess is there are different ballast weights installed in the fuse that account for this difference. Just a guess though. Only way to tell is record the weight of the bird with no battery installed and see what the data shows. One more caution on the stock servo's, my aileron servo failed after only 16 total flights. Yes I started flying it more aggressively, but I was lucky enough to get it back on the deck safely. I'm in the process of changing all the servo's out for EMAX ES3054 17g Metal Gear Digital Servos. This plane flies too good with the motor and prop upgrade. I have the 550kv motor and 100A Freewing ESC and both the APC 15x8E and Xoar 16x10 work extremely well on it. Love the extended flight times using a 5000mA SMC pack. The 5000mA pack ended up centered on the tray for good CG for me. Love this plane. RadioSsetup: Ailerons are rolling in the correct direction??? You were on auto pilot there Brian when you said that. I knew you would catch it though. Always do relearn servo settings when changing airplane type, servo reverse, or subtrim settings. On that Utilities menu, there is also the Gyro Response Test to make it easy to see the gyro directions while verifying the response. Great feature.

Welcome! Thanks for being here. The reason we fly first, is that we got thousands, upon thousands of requests to do so. I personally thought it would be better to do things in order, but the audience overwhelmingly wanted it this way...so I guess they win ;) Plus, we have pretty long videos, so a very small percentage of viewers will watch the whole thing, so we would lose a lot of people before we'd fly ;(... Brian, I'm not cheap but I am frugal. It doesn't make sense to me to pay for a receiver with features, in this case SAFE technology, that you're not going to use. I'd guess you're paying a 30-40% premium for that Spektrum receiver because of it having SAFE. Is that particular receiver that good? There are I believe a bunch less expensive 3 axis solutions out there that will work with Specktrum radios.
@BrianPhillipsRC4 жыл бұрын

I prefer AS3X, but have also had good luck with lemon's 7 channel with Stabilization. The Hobby Eagle is real nice too, the AL-3 and A3 are both good. Just a budget and real estate issue...if you add up a decent or cheap receiver, and a stabilizer and the cables between (most of the time they're included) you may be pretty close to the Spektrum one, which is very nice, and includes telemetry...but for me, I'm just starting to use the telemetry.
