FMTV SPARE TIRE TUTORIAL #57

In this episode, I operate the spare tire lift to adjust the rear canopy cover and revitalize the spare tire with Endurance Gel; prepping for a local parade to gain awareness for the Gospel Mission. I go over the do's and don'ts to help you prevent damage to your LMTV from mishandling the spare tire lift.

Great stuff. Your tutorials are invaluable to the LMTV community. I'm also a fan of the stock military spec appearance over the tricked out overland rigs so your nuts and bolts basic maintenance stuff has been super helpful to me as I've been learning by helping a friend get his running.

You know when you watching a how-to video while you're actually trying to duplicate what they are doing and they gloss over something important, like you should just know how to do that?! I try my best to show as much as I can, including my mess-ups, and add a bit of entertainment to make it interesting. I'm glad this is helping you and your friend... my plans are to keep doing basic stuff that every LMTV owner is going to want to do. I don't have thousands of dollars to throw at big projects... if I did, I'd probably buy another rig instead. Many blessings, friend!

Manuel, what fun would that be for me and Sean? LOL! Yeah, it would be nice to have something other than a manual to decipher. I've learned from trial and error, and fixing stuff that Army dudes screwed up. The fixing stuff does take a lot of investigating to figure out what went wrong, but it's all a part of the game of learning. Thanks for your continued support my friend.

It is the best stuff for these tires that were never made to take a shine. Doing the treads is a pain in the rear, though. It takes a lot of time.

Can those lmtv wheels be reversed? ala ran deep dish out on the rear. Asking because I want singles on an international 4700... your videos are awesome ...thank you

I don't think they can be run that way due to the beveled lug holes, but I am really not certain of this. With the CTIS on the outside of the rim, hmmmm.... people have put some stuff together that would have thought it would never work, but it did. However, I am leaning towards skeptical. Good question!

Good instructional on the spare tire mount. Having retired from the Marine Corps about the time the FMTV/LMTV's were hitting the motorpools, I've always wondered about that 'front-rear' re-riggable winch (the 11k hydraulic winch). Any chance you could make a video on how that you re-rig that from 'front-pull' to 'rear-pull'? I can't seem to find a video or TM on the process, ANYWHERE! (looks like the cable 'end-swage' is too large to just pull through and re-route, without having to take some fairlead rollers out to accomplish it).

Nevermind...found the TM section (TM-9-2320-365-10, Section 2, pgs 330 onward)...but would still be nice to see it performed, if you someday have the inclination. Great vids!

Unfortunately, this LMTV does not have the winch that you are referring to. (I'm sad.) Wish I did because they are very handy for all kinds of things... mainly, to get "un-stuck" from whatever predicament I might find myself in. As for me, I never saw these. The last 10 years on active duty was spent in the Counterdrug. I retired in 2011.

Bob thinks the pump on mine is froze. I am borrowing his pressure washer. Yes, I will be making other videos, but my most responsive subscribers are LMTV fans. how much space is there between top of tire and the hop it hangs from when you have to push/pull/roll tire to get her to sit in there right before finishing raising or lowering spare tire hoop. Wondering if any mods will be needed for a 3" taller tire or not is reason for question.

Great question. Here is the thing... I have "choked up" on the chain, figuring it was way too long and I wanted the tire to clear everything so I wouldn't have to fuss with the tire to get it up and down. Well, the tire bound up on the lifting hoop, preventing the tire from seating correctly and I had to take the tire back down to the ground and loosen the lifting chain to it's original length. With a three inch taller tire, I feel as though it will be fine, but will require some additional maneuvering. Use the original chain length, though. Distance it hangs is about 5".
