FMTV ENGINE TUNNEL COVER SOUND PROOFING! #56

Based on a video pioneered by Broke Overland, I show a step by step process how to form a great sound proofing layer on the bottom side of the engine tunnel cover, also known as the "dog house." The sound quality inside the cab is amazingly quiet to my ear, however the iPhone dB meter reports no change with a medial range of 70 dB. Either I cannot hear the frequencies that the phone is picking up, or the meter app has changed it's configuration. ???
The 3/4" thick sound proofing application can be found at smile.amazon.c...
Or by searching "Dynamat 11905 Hoodliner 32" x 54" x 3/4" Thick Self-Adhesive Sound Deadener"

been loving Broke Overland's channel, only found him yesterday but since we all are stuck at home with nothing better to do I have watched most of his videos, he has been doing some beautiful work on his truck.

He does some real meticulous work, especially his interior videos. I like to watch his stuff, too. It is a different perspective and use that he has planned for his LMTV, but it's the differences that make it interesting.

Thanks for the shoutout Dave. Just wait until you get out on the road. The dynamat hoodliner cuts the high frequency whine of the turbo the most but a side benefit is that it cuts down a ton on the heat in the cab, that is normally transmitted through the dog house. if you get the chance, pop a couple of bolts in the holes where the jump seat was bolted. sound is like water, it will "leak" into the cab through every hole. :)

It was an honor to give credit where credit is due. It may not look like it, but there are bolts in the holes... they are just not screwed down very far right now, since the jump seat has been temporarily removed. I have one more piece of sound proofing to use in the area, then it's a seat change. Wish me luck!

When it comes to that type of tape, I always end up using it all. Something therapeutic about shinny tape. :D Great job, looks very clean.

No way is it worth leaving 12" of tape on a role. It just feels like an unfinished job at that point. I know if I look hard enough, I'll find a spot for it and feel better about myself for it. :-)

Nice work, Dave. I bought the same stuff after seeing Chad and Sean install it, but have yet to install. Was it one hour job or was it more like two hours? I also got a couple Mega Packs of Dynamat Xtreme for inside the cab and I've already done a 1/4" thick layer of Raptor Liner under the cab and installed Dynamat in the doors.... However, it was over 100˙ today and we don't have AC yet so on our drive this afternoon the windows were wide open. This was our first hot day drive and I found that most of the engine and hub noise comes in through the side windows, especially the turbo wine through the passenger door window. That said, better keep those earmuffs until you have AC!

Ethan Turner it is hard to say, since filming it and dinking around with tripods always slows me down. With a sharp utility knife, spray bottle of solvent, and blue paper towels at the ready, it could be done in an hour, no problem.

Hi Dave, That went real well. I'm slowly tring to catch up with you on the sound deadening. I have gone to a junk yard and picked up three hood insulation liners to fit in the engine compartment (dog house). That was my idea of how to approach it anyways. It cost me only like $8. Hey, so how many dB levels did you drop down after installing that??? What's the name of that stuff you used? Thanks for the video!
@HelicoolsHelipad

Well Mike, a strange thing has happened... the cause of which I do not know. To my ear, the noise level was reduced noticeably. However, my iPhone did not share the same result. The dB level recorded on my phone actually increased from previous results. The medium score was 70-ish dB. I don't know if the app updated and changed parameters, so something else is causing the problem. I have one more item to add, so I hope I can figure out what is going on by then. Thanks for watching and your question. Take care, friend.
