I've worked on several 509's and installed several MCarbo sear housing kits. A lot of that grit is in the safety plunger housing and striker channel. Take off the slide and push down the safety and feel for grit and pull the striker rearward for grit. Also, the sear housing parts all need polishing. It's not necessary to punch out that front trigger pin as the frame MIGHT crack. Those are tightly press fit in by FN. The sear housing in the back will come out without taking out the trigger and trigger bar. The housing is in 2 halves and comes apart easily. The FN specs are 5.5 to 7.5 trigger pull. I got my 509 down to 3.75 lbs. I'm checking out a black one that's hitting my retailer tomorrow. If it's the pussies whiskers, I too might sell my FNX 45 Tactical and get the FDE 545.

Sweet! The only thing I wish they would have done, is used the flat trigger that they use in the LAPD FN 509 LE and if they use the updated striker. They may use the newer striker design since this is a newer offering but the older 509’s has a poorly designed striker. The LAPD 509 LE uses a different one. (I know it’s not officially called LAPD, but I’m saying that for reference). Loved this video. I’ll probably buy one now.

They did use the new striker. So it says on their website. But the Apex trigger is superior to any version of FN’s trigger. Apex is probably working on one for this already. I have an Apex in my compact mrd, tactical, and LS. The LS came with their flat trigger but it just doesn’t compare to the Apex.

Ooh am I glad to see this comment. Was looking at one of the two but was leaning towards the FNX because of the SA/DA and I like the manual decocker but now the deal is sealed. It's gonna be the FNX45 tac.

While I agree with the steel vs plastic, it is a substantial savings going plastic and the ability to get started immediately with whatever optic footprint you own.

Is it comparable in size to Fnx 45 tactical? I have big hands (long fingers specifically) so I struggle “defeating” the trigger guard with most guns. The Fnx 45 tactical works for me, but I’d love to upgrade if the grip and trigger guard are the same size.

But... but... it really is just a striker fired FNX. It's hard to get excited about a gun that's basically been on the market for a decade, minus the hammer. And don't get me wrong, I have 3 509s... And a 510 already allocated to my dealer, there's little doubt if I will own one of these. I'm just not jumping up and down for it... Mostly because I OWN an FNX already (and the FNX shoot SOOO much better than any 509 🤣).
