Some have claimed this is a PR stunt on my part to get students/business. That don't add up. I'm literally asking for my competition to accept MORE people into their courses. I fully expect this video and associated posts to get me blacklisted as future student from said companies. If these companies change their class policy due to my efforts, and prohibit me, then I happily accept that fate. At least I opened the door for others.

As for the responsibility or skillset of LE/MIL; on the first day here I took a Glock Armorer's course and the fellow sitting next to me was LE and was the only person to fail the class - and miserably.

As a gunsmith, I can say that this is a larger issue than people realize. I've always found it interesting that manufacturers are always looking for dealers, but then won't give the dealers the training or support to handle maintenance-level tasks for the customer. Small law enforcement departments still purchase through dealers and civilian sales entities. The fact is that while manufacturers are good at turning out large volumes of guns, they're often not very good or expedient about offering basic warranty level service or repairs. I think there's also a directive by manufacturers to avoid non-factory service and discontinue parts as quickly as possible. It's not unheard to be unable to get factory service parts for platforms that are only a few years old or just out of manufacturing. We're not talking about complex parts like barrels or bolt assemblies, but wear items like pins, springs, etc....
@wanderingcalamity3603 ай бұрын
What all did you do to become a gunsmith? Been looking into that myself.
@vettepilot4273 ай бұрын
@@wanderingcalamity360 I have a 2 year associate’s degree in automotive. I worked in a dealership while I went through school on a co-op program and then worked for a company that specialized in late-model GM performance. This is where I learned basic troubleshooting and mechanics (how things move in relation to each other). After that, I worked 23 years in the family machining and fabrication business, where I learned about managing a business as well as machining processes. I took a one-on-one precision rifle building class from Gordy Gritters and worked in the shop with a local gunsmith for 6 months. The other side to being a gunsmith is to set your business up correctly with an FFL and the appropriate licenses to operate as a legal business. There’s no actual training requirement or official “license” to be a gunsmith other than an FFL so that you can legally possess firearms belonging to someone else while you work on them or make new guns for someone else from a receiver. Community colleges often have great general gunsmith programs where you can learn the troubleshooting and machining skills as well as firearm specific skills. I would encourage you to try to specialize (mine is precision rifles) and find specific training for that specialty. I still do general repairs, but I don’t do things like revolvers and restorations. If you like that sort of thing, I would consider a woodworking class. I’d also encourage you to find a gunsmith in your area and visit the shop. You may be able to help out evenings and weekends as your schedule allows and this helps you decide things like shop layout and what equipment that you really need vs what you want. It can save you a lot of money in the end. Good luck!!

I love what Bear Creek Arsenal in North Carolina has been doing! And their counterparts Palmetto State Armory in South Carolina. They have become my 2 favorite firearms makers of late. Ruger and Marlin along with Smith and Wesson have been making some great progress in new models in the past years other makers have done a few but not like these folks. I probably have more PSA products than other manufactures. I just built a PSA Lower and BCA 300-Blackout here. I am currently getting it setup for hunting the way I like it. the value for the investment in these great firearms, I thank you for the arms you make. I have put together many PSA built lower receivers with BCA uppers, and they have been awesome! BCA is making great stuff and rifles that people are looking for in so many calibers, after much research the products from PSA are at great price! And they have great customer service they get it fixed and back in a week or less! I have people refer to Anderson AR-15s as "Poverty Ponys" and turn their noses up at PSA or Bear Creek so they can brag about what expensive things they have. Then later they can't outshoot the competition shooters at the range that are using standard ammo and standard firearms who are just having fun and socializing with other shooters I really enjoy seeing the Barney Fifes who have all the high-speed holster and gear and a stack of gun publications who talk a big game but when the old pros leave them in the dust! Milspec is, more than most people will ever need most people can't outperform their firearm. I am so happy that PSA has started manufacturing to feed the great firearms that they do. I would like to see PSA expand their stores and training facilities to other southern states.

So this makes me wonder then. I used to help run a family run mailing business here in my town and one of our clients was a tactical officers mailing piece and he would do these conventions and would have class courses and one of them was a armorer course. So I wonder who was running that then. Because it was law enforcement who was sent the catalog. And yes folks we used to mail one to the White House secret service detail.

One should not apologize for telling the truth, or having an opinion. None of the manufacturers you mentioned are special by any means. Just makes one wonder who's hand is in the cookie jar and what be flavor of cookies at that moment. Enjoy watching your videos, have learned a lot.

Your videos really inspired me to take a course. I’m slated to take a Daniel Defense this April
