@rap2xtrooper878 Жыл бұрын
Funny you should claim that Led Zeppelin didn't use any lasers, smoke machines or fireworks in their shows, because they used a ton of pyrotechnics and gimmicks and starting from 1975, the year this specific concert (Earls Court 1975) in the video took place, they had started to use lasers and were in fact one of the first bands to use lasers in their shows. Just look up footage of the band's performances of Dazed and Confused starting from the 1975 tour alone. You'll see Jimmy covered in haze from fog machines while laser pyramids form around him during his bow solo. In No Quarter, the fog machines worked so hard that it was virtually impossible to see the band onstage. They also had fireworks rigged to blow up during several songs, such as in Black Dog. At some concerts, Bonzo would set his gong on fire and bang on it while it was still aflame. During their later years, Zeppelin were as much a visual attraction as they were a musical one.

Zep's ability to tap into soul and funk always set them apart from so many other heavy bands of their era, or bands that followed. I hear this in some other bands (Pink Floyd, Bad Co, Fleetwood Mac, Prince, Talking Heads, Built to Spill, White Stripes, Black Keys, etc.), but Led Zeppelin's ability to go off the rails - all four of them - and into scat singing, pyschedelia, and a pounding volcanic fury is breathtaking because they never lose sight of the journey we're on, nor the end they lead us to.

I could loop this video for days and never tire. Everyone was on their “A” game , even with it being Led Zep who were already a class into themselves. Bonham shows everyone here why he was the most inhuman and most unbelievably the most talented drummer ever. You can barely find a repeat. It’s as if he not only improvises and keeps everyone on target but does so with velocity, crashing bombastic beat bangs and is unmatchable!

Well as polyphonic said that was his goal on some songs, like black dog and kashmir. And he did it like no one else could, we're lucky plant had him in mind when they needed a drummer
@zygotezygotten64852 жыл бұрын
@@christianbuxaderas8319 Carl Palmer's live Karn Evil 9 solos during the early 70s were far superior to anything Bonham ever did. Palmer was on another level from Bonham in terms of technical skill and creativity. Ian Paice was at least Bonham's equal as a hard-rock drummer. Palmer and Paice are both still playing great in their early seventies. Bonham was a great hard-rock drummer but calling him the GOAT is ludicrous. Do you honestly think he was more talented than Buddy Rich and Louie Bellson? How about Billy Cobham and Neil Peart? There have been and are now many drummers more talented than John Bonham. I liked and respected Bonham but wasn't in awe of him. He was great, yes, but not superhuman.

@@angelwilliams413 I have listened to this and many Led Zeppelin songs MANY times. There are MANY drummers of all genres who could duplicate Bonham's performances----ALL of the drummers I mentioned were and are more technically skilled and creative than Bonham was. Bonham WAS great at what he did----hard-driving, power, blues-oriented rock drumming----that was his game. Can you see him having played jazz in the same league as Rich, Bellson and Cobham? I cannot. Was Bonham a great drummer? Yes. Was he the GOAT? Definitely not.

From around the 7:00 mark to about 8:30 where the band is trying to find the end of the song, they know each other so well and just shifted through a "gallows pole" beat to the ending with such ease. That to myself personally, is as good as heaven.

I know what you mean. When you're a jam band like this it takes a lot of telepathic skills to venture off into unknown territory and try to bring it back on point. Everyone in the band needs to know each other musically and watch each other for cues etc. Too much music these days is too clinical and they don't let each other go off into neverland and be good enough and confident enough to know when to take cues and know when to come back. For me that's where some of the magic of music happens. You can pull it off and sometimes not but at least you're giving it a go and Dave Grohl talks about some of Zep's bootlegs he has where they just go off to who knows where and somehow they have to rein it in and come back to the song structure. It's not something that's done much anymore cuz everything has to be some kind of clinical professionalism but the magic gets lost for me. There's something magical for me to see a band work together, it's otherworldly.
