Aww. Sweetheart! I have had FND since 1983. My major symptom is also the paralysis upon waking. I'm here to reassure you that you can live a full, productive and meaningful life with FND! I am married now 35 years, raised three boys, had a music career and now in retirement I am traveling. You can do it, too. Ask for the help you need, grieve what is lost then find a way anyway!

I was diagnosed with FND last fall, and couldn’t get PT where I live, so had to work my way out of it myself. But even now, if I don’t manage my stress well, it all comes creeping back. I sometimes have the fear of it coming back worse than before, or unexpectedly - the unpredictability of FND is truly frustrating. But one thing it HAS taught me, is rather than fearing the what-if’s of tomorrow, I should be intentional about enjoying and taking care of my health today; and it has taught me a new appreciation for life and the little things that I took for granted before. Choosing gratitude instead of fear, and also reassuring myself that if it happens again, I can get out of it again, just like it did before, has given me so much more strength and confidence in myself than anything else ever could. Focus on today. ENJOY today to the fullest. And know that you are strong and can always handle it if does happen again. You overcame it once - you can do it again - but now THIS time you already know what it is and don’t have to re-live that dreadful process of finding a diagnosis all over again. You are stronger and wiser for it now - so if it does relapse at any given point, you will be better equipped for it mentally and physically, and I’m confident it will go much smoother for you. Fear not.
