I can help out with that a bit. Woodland of Lies actually has TWO major themes; first being unused content/rumours around official Mario games, and second being creepypastas based around Super Mario World. It's also the only world to have almost all its opponents NOT be a Mario, and the sole exception is still half-Yoshi. And Hellish Heights has all the opponents, aside from the Commercial Gang, as some of the more recent creepypasta villains.

You can’t each song will be unlocked after you go to the warp start (after finishing the story mode) and you have to battle each character so you can’t unlock them in freeplay you have to play the story mode and warp starts
