Yap session incoming I think the darkness may represent a loss of childlike wonder, like waking up on a Saturday morning to watch a Cartoon Network marathon. The way everything is monetized into things like KZbin content farms and subscription based streaming apps, and how it grasps the characters and brainwashes them into practically mindless zombies. The reason the side characters tend to survive is because of how the main characters are so overly paid attention to in terms of what the companies behind them want, money, so they usually survive longer. It’s so stupidly simple and great that the power of love is the only way to get rid of the darkness, when you give something love and passion it can grow and be nurtured into something great again. A fine example is how fairly odd parents was turned from season 10 and it’s little reboots to fairly odd parents: a new wish, that everyone loves, currently. It’s just a really nice symbol of corporate greed taking over the child like enjoyment and aspects of cartoons.
