They are still alive but Sonic is forcing them to fight bf, so he's not directly controlling them (Tails tries to tell the player to get the rings (with his red eye), Eggman laughs at Sonic (cause he's losing) and Eggman keeps singing even though Sonic wants him to stop (you can see the glitchy effect appear but Eggman keeps singing)) but he is forcing them to fight (probably with violence since they're all injured).
