I've seen other reviews of these and the signal is so stable at high frequencies because it's *highly* interpolated. You can see the software interpolating even during time scale changes. It's becoming all too common for these ultra-budget scopes to pretend that everything is a sine wave above 10-25% of their rated bandwidth. This "100MHz" scope can barely display a 10MHz square wave and we could test its realistic bandwidth sensitivity by determining where the displayed voltage drops by ~30%, which is about -3dB. In the video it was 4.2dB down at 50MHz and I would guess the actual bandwidth sensitivity is ~30MHz and the display accuracy is more like 10MHz. When Hugo zoomed in the voltage scale the measured reading dropped to 3.3Vpp, which is -10dB, but it's normal for oscilloscopes to need lots of waveforms on the screen to display accurate voltages, so I'll give it credit for the reading it showed *before* the auto-set. Always remember to zoom out all oscilloscopes to get the best voltage measurements. The 500mV minimum DC sensitivity is also totally unacceptable when it's rated for 50mV. These ultra-budget scopes are acceptable products, but they *must* advertise accurate specifications in order to be useful tools. We all understand that a US$40-$80 handheld scope isn't going to compete with an $800 bench model, but we still deserve to know the actual capabilities before buying.

Hi Rob, nice comment! Regarding the "interpolation" to be able to show a decent sinewave, to be honest, that doesn't bother much, as long the values are correct (time and voltage divisions). Rigol for example, as the UltraVision to improve the waveform and Siglent also as something like that. For me it has to be accurate and if it totally get there, is all different story. But you and other viewer hit exactly on the point and I could not be more in aggreement with you in the fact that the specs are most of times, somehow "shapped" to mislead us. This happens, not only in this small oscilloscopes, but a lot in the desktop entry range. A lot of marketing and too few quality. I have a problem while a content creator and reviewer of this devices, that is, not counting with the established brands (keysight, siglent, rhode, tektronix, rigo, etc), all the equipment have the same issues, so I decided to compare the devices between the devices of the same range, because if you compare with those brands, the result will never be good. If we are talking about cars, we'll compare a golf with a peugeot and not with a mercedes or BMW. But again, you're rigjt on every observation you made and I'm all for transparency, the should label the equipments according the real specs. Just to finish, I though that was curios, that Lotto Instrumments oscilloscopes state in the specs that they will have (example) 30Mhz at -3dB. Nice touch. Thank you so much for you elaborated comment! It was very rich. Thanks for watching ❤

We bought some of those for the equivalent of $150 each. We needed a scope capable of measuring signals from an ultrasonic machine that produced a 320V, 40kHz sinewave. The scope is very hard to set up, and frequently can't tell the frequency as accurately as our benchtop scope. It is not that bad though, but for $150 it is still not the best choice. (For those wondering why 150, brazilians pay an 80% duty tax over all imported good and spare parts as well.)

Hi Lucas, thanks for sharing. I am learning from those 5-video reviews series (I'm regording today the 4th video that will go on air on Aug/18) that from all of the oscilloscopes I've tested until now with 100Mhaz or more and in 50 to 100€ range, this is the worst one. Today I tested the SigPeak DSO1511G and I was super impressed! The last one will also be from SigPeak and im confident that will beat every other option on that range. I will do a showdown between the 5 oscilloscopes in september, not to loose 😎 Regarding the customs in Brazil (Brasil for us) I'm talk in a Whatsapp group with several youtubers from Brazil and they already talked about the fees, it's nuts what you pay in custom fees. Thank you so much for sharing and for watching! Stay safe 👍

I find it interesting that the vpp changed from 6v to 3v when you went below 2v voltage divisions. It sounds like Vpp is a dynamic reading based on how tall the wave is on the chart, and Vrms would be the setting to use.

Thanks for the review Hugo. Its a pity the advertised bandwidth is far different to reality. While its a very cheap scope, I still think they should advertise the correct bandwidth.

Sorry, did I miss something? Isn't the unit advertised as 100MHz bandwidth and it decently performed that level?
@TechCornerTV2 жыл бұрын
@@MrKockabilly Hi, as you can see at 100Mhz the Vpp is 388mV. Ideally if this was a 100Mhz scope, it will not drop bellow 707mV (or something near that). There is a relation between the voltage drop (cut off) and the maximum frequency suported. You can read more about it here siglentna.com/operating-tip/determine-bandwidth-scope-require-application/ . You can also measure the bandiwdth using the rise time and is also explained in that article. The sinewave on the screen looks ok, but because it was somehow improved by internal software and not because it was the correct reprodution of what is reading. Anyway, for most of the cases, the oscilloscope is ok, but should be advertised with a lower bw to be accurate in the specifications. Thanks for watching!

The scope didn't correctly register millivolts DC because the vertical sensitivity was on the 1 Volt/div setting. Also when looking at sine waves from the generator I expect the generator was set to 50 Ohm output so the scope input experienced twice the level set on the generator.

DOES THIS OSCILLOSCOPE HAVE THE FFT OPTION? I THINK IT IS INFERIOR TO THE FNIRSI Zeeweii DSO1511G
@TechCornerTV Жыл бұрын
Hi, don't remember if it has FFT, but sure DSO1511G is superior, I would advice the DSO2512G or even the other FNIRSI oscilloscopes I reviewed in this series or the DPOX180H, but this one is a bit more expensive. At the same price you have 1C15+, that a bit better. Thanks for watching.

Why specify/describe/sell a ~30MHz DSO as a 100MHz one? Because chinese sellers think Western people are stupid.
@TechCornerTV2 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, I agree that it should be branded 30Mhz... the sinewave at 100Mhz was still better that some entry level bench oscilloscopes, but that is no excuse. Specially because those bench desktops sofer from the same problem. No reliable specs. But the next 4 weeks (if I don't fail one) I'll be showing 4 more models in the same price range, so a lot of the same about to came... I'll do a "showdown" video with the 5 models in the end and compare directly the analysed models. Thanks for watching! 👍

This device is totally unusable for me in the low frequency range (from 200ms to 10ms timescale). In this range it's refresh rate is like 1 frame per 5 seconds and it's not possible to capture low frequency signals. It also misses single pulses wich happen less than 50 Hz so it can't be used to investigate rising/falling edge of the impulse. Trigger always misses the pulse. When switching to more fine timescale (like in the range of microseconds) the refresh rate of the screen becomes normal but trigger still misses the pulses.

@@VEC7ORlt Yes, but if Fnirsi sells this product with 100 MHz BW and it only has for example 20 MHz, it is false advertising. We know a lot of Chinese manufacturers do that but it's still quite a difference in specs.

@@proteomicrotronicsempresa2030 Yes, yes it is, but what are you going to do about it - sue them? No, you do your homework, is 20MHz scope for ~100eu good value? If so you buy, if not you don't. It is for me - it has nice interface, sturdy box, 20MHz is plenty for the girls I go out with, now when I do proper probing and R&D I use my proper 100MHz 2ch machine. Besides, how much a 2ch 100MHz scope these days? ~300-500eu.

Hi, by the way the square wave behaves with the square wave, I would say no. The maximum bandwidth of my AWG for sine waves is 30Mhz (and thats good for a sqare wave) and at that bandwidth you should have a nice signal on a 100Mhz oscilloscope. Thanks for watching 👍
@TechCornerTV2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thats exactly the question.... do you need 100Mhz on the oscilloscope? Most of the target users of these equipments will not use that kind of frequency on they projects. That said, the specs should be accurate and normally are not. Thanks for watching 👍
