I very much admire and appreciate a reviewer who is sincere and honest, especially up front, about their knowledge, understanding and interest in a product rather than just regurgitating talking points from a manufacturer's product sheet. We all have the option of not watching any particular video rather than to feel the need to leave negative comments to boost our egos to feel superior.

33:44 - Because it has floating ground. Its isolated from ground/Earth in our AC system. Difference between oscilloscope with 2 CH and oscilloscope with 1CH, is that on 2CH version, you can use substract math function, and use 2 probes in AC circuit without black GND clip. Beginners really should watch YT videos on how to avoid damaging oscilloscope when connecting GND.

4:01 The 20Mhz bandwith limit is to block high frequency noise, with that limit enabled, your signal is much cleaner (less ripple) when measuring lower frequency signals.

FFT's are great for finding the harmonics of a fundamental waveform and the amplitude of the harmonics... They can also show the noise spectrum of SMPS output and lots of other clever things...

34:35 If you use a scope probe without the hook and with the bare tip, it's advised to use the little yellow plastic tip cover (in the middle of the bag with probes at 7:09 ) , that way, the ground ring on the probe is protected against touching with your fingers, or the risk of shorting something out on a pcb when doing measurings.

The FFT function is very useful i.e. when trying to identify noise in a signal. You could take a snapshot and measure the dirt on your signal with cursors, or you simply turn on FFT, and with a frequency identified you can narrow down the source a lot easier. XY mode is a wonderful thing to have. From component tracing to playing around with SSTV and stuff like that.

No insult intended to you Ricard - but I am amazed at how we have changed our standards - using a Rigol scope as the standard to measure against. It's been a while since I have been in the electronics manufacture sphere but I recall the HW guys only being convinced by a measurement when the Rohde & Schwarz said that is what it was :) I think even if you dared to mention comparing to a Tektronics you got laughed at

Hey Rich - great video (as always) - next time I need a scope I'm going to borrow that lil' bugger. One thing: if you talk to the FNRSI guys, could you ask them for a protocol analyzer? You know, when working with micro controllers, an absolute selling point would be a way to debug I2C, SPI or Serial (you can do all of them with 2 channels). And since this is a software thing, you don't even need to change the hardware. I remember having this feature back in the university on my 4CH scope there and it saved my bacon more than once :)

I agree, it is a nice handheld scope from what I saw of it. On the bench I generally use a bench scope - but the DPOX180H would be my tool of choice for SMPS repair at the moment due to the relatively safe position of the BNC connectors

I found the cursor implementation very strange. Get a sine signal, turn the vertical cursors on. Position one halfway the upper part of the sine, the other one at the lowest point of the sie. Read the V1/V2 values in the upper left. What do you expect these values represent? Then look in the manual what they actual represent. The signal generator points are very hard to reach if you have two probes and usb-loading. I modiefien my scope to have the signalgen output at the bottom with some banana sockets.

If that IS a digital phosphor scope, I'd like to see how well it displays analog complex waveforms like an analog video signal or the laser eye pattern from a cd player. EVERYONE that shows, sells, or reviews a scope puts in a sine wave, a square wave, or something super simple. But the real test is a complex analog waveform that NOBODY ever uses, because most of these digital scopes just cannot display that. Would love a follow-up if you can.

Richard do you think this handheld is better then the fnirsi 1014D ?
@LearnElectronicsRepair
@LearnElectronicsRepair Жыл бұрын
Good question. This one will operate at higher frequencies and has a very bright display. It's also more portable. The 1014D I rather liked and it is a bench oscilloscope with a larger screen but is also mains isolated (with the supplied USB-C PSU). Both do the job well as far as the sort of repair work that I do. I think my best answer is that if your usage is similar to mine then you would probably be happy with either, so it comes down to desk space and portability. This one is definitely safer for 'Hot-Ground' non isolated mains circuit repair (ie SMPS) due to the better positioning of the BNC sockets. You can do it with the 1014D but you need to be very careful where you put your fingers when adjusting the time base without getting a nasty shock from the BNC connector. I'm not sure the 1014D has the XY mode that this one has so very soon I will make a video using the home built Huntron tracker, or curve analyzer, on both of them. One thing I did notice is that the XY mode does not work with my home brew tracker on the Rigol. It works fine on my analog Tektronix which is what I used with it. Watch this space for more info...

@@LearnElectronicsRepair now I am not sure wich one to buy LOL I will mainly use it to repair audio equipment and laptop boards ... what would you advice between them 2 ?
@LearnElectronicsRepair
@LearnElectronicsRepair Жыл бұрын
@@Dutch-linux OK personally I prefer a desktop scope mainly because of the larger screen. The main reason I will use a handheld scope is when I want to work on switch mode PSU and other similar non isolated devices and because of the design of this one (placement of BNC connectors) it is probably the one I would grab just due to safety concerns. Considering the highest frequency signals I ever wanted to see on a motherboard during repair was 25MHz then either would be fine. TBH I can't think of any occasion when I used a scope during laptop repair (or saw anyone else doing so) apart from maybe checking if the CPU accesses the BIOS which just about any scope can do. But then again I am not a laptop repair expert. Again regards audio repair I think just about any scope would do the job.

There is a piece of protective film over the screen.
@LearnElectronicsRepair
@LearnElectronicsRepair Жыл бұрын
@paulstaf Are you 100% certain of this??? It's what what confused me as I mentioned in the video, because there was the usual protective film over the display, which I already removed (but not on video unfortunately), and then there is this second protective film that does not seem to want to come off. Tech Corner TV also had the same problem on his review video kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqCymWOdrtWJf6s at 07:52 he removes the protective film the same one as I removed but at 08:17 he tries to remove the other 'protective film' that you say I need to remove, and appears to damage the display in the attempt. Can you tell us how to remove it?
@RensePosthumus
@RensePosthumus Жыл бұрын
@@LearnElectronicsRepair Is there really a second film? I took my scope apart and there was no film, but a plastic overlay for the screen in order not to damage it. Removing this "secondfilm" does just the opposite of what it is intended for: quard the display against scratches.

I rewatched your video and never saw you remove any protector. I think if you take a toothpick and scratch at those bubbles on the right hand side you will catch a thin film and be able to remove it without damaging anything. Just a guess, I don't have one to test. :)
@LearnElectronicsRepair
@LearnElectronicsRepair Жыл бұрын
@@paulstaf You are totally correct Paul. I did remove the screen protector off video as I thought that was mundane, but then found this second layer of something that looks like a screen protector which I found hard to remove so like any self respecting YT influence I referred to someone else review and found they had problems removing it also, so I decided not to. Just in case. To me, yes, it does look like a screen protector but it seems it is not easy to remove it either 🤔

Please stop making reviews of things you have to admit you don't understand them. Just the first 4 minutes contained too many "I don't knw" and "I dont knwo what it is for". -3 dB are at about 70%. Sorry you didn't like the review. I don't feel the need to go into every detail of a device, I just want to test it in the sort of scenarios I would use it in. Repair work. The other thing I would ask, if this stuff is crap, how can it be any use for real life repair work?
