USB-C E-Marker is a chip that is required in USB-C cables that support over 60W of charging power. Cables with less than 60W charging power usually don't have that chip because they don't need it, according to the standard.

Thank you for this and your other videos! I'm newer to these testers and your videos have helped. I've been testing the FNB58 against the FNB48S and it seems the FNB48S seems to provides more data up front without having to jump into secondary screens. The navigation takes a moment, but the features are more quickly accessible (less menu navigation). Yes the interface on the FNB58 is nicer, but you compromise refresh speed. The FNB48S polls (or at least updates) data so much faster. The FNB48 main screen provides min/max V/A/W and load resistance which the FNB58 doesn't seem to provide at all? I know this is an old video, but a FNB48P vs FNB58 would be an awesome comparison. I would love to see what you consider the pro/con of each unit. Thanks!

Keep in mind that you need a Windows PC to update the firmware, which should be done.

I would be very interested to know if this device somehow can also be used to detect which wires are present for data transfer. Because some are for power transfer only and by looking at the connector it cannot be determined if the wires for data transfer are present. For example, some cables that have been advertised as an USB3 ready cable and has also the proper USB3 connectors on each end are (intentionally or not) only provided with only D- and D+ wires, which in turn makes them USB2 cables.

I finally got mine. One thing I noticed is that it does detect Apple 2.4A profile on the 12W Apple charger (and some others) (2.7V on D+ and 2.7V on D-) but it doesn't detect Apple 2.1A profile on 10W Apple charger (2.7V on D+ and 2V on D-). That's really unfortunate. The old Ruideng UM25(C) USB tester nicely detects Apple 2.1A profile on a charger.

Thank you for the first review of the product for the western world. I am interested in the data logging capabilities of the device. Which parameters does it log ? Voltage and current only ? Can the log file be exported in CSV format ? What is the maximum frequency of logging in offline mode ? Is it possible to log directly onto the phone when connected via Bluetooth in online mode ? Thanks

Hi Yıldıray, So you can log the VBUS (voltage), IBUS (amperage), D+, D-, PBUS (wattage), CAP and NRG. I wasn't able to save the data in the mobile app, only in the PC. On mobile it seems to work only in live mode. It saves to a CFN extension that my computer identified as a CFW file. Is binary, Maybe there is some utility to convert to CSV. The maximum time division is 5s and the minimum is 0.1/div. Hope that this help you. Thanks for watching! 👍

would be great if you could do a side by side comparison of the FNB58 to the Power-Z KM003 PD 3.1 tester and also compare both of their PC software since they look very different. The KM003C is the newest version of the tester (old was KM002c). KM003C range has been increased to 50V 6A for example which is future proof. since the PD3.1 standard goes all the way up to 48Volt 5Amps, 240W. It would be good to know if the FNB58 is also spec'd to 50V 6Amp, or at the minimum at least be able to handle current 140W-28V chargers. I was reading the FNB58 spec list and it appears to be only 4V-28V, and maximum of 120W. This is concerning if these are specs since the lowest PD3.1 charger is already at 28V, 140W, how will it safely test them? this is why a side by side comparison would be good includng if they are both rated to test current 140W/28V PD 3.1 charger. The KM003C I can only find on AliE x press for $80 right now, it will probably be on Ama zon soon , KM003C also has a slightly bigger screen than the older KM002C.

Hi! You SHOULD be the guy who likes to remove the plastic from your electronic products! I did originally feel the need to leave those on my own gadgets, but it is a bad idea to leave them on devices that needs to dissipate heat. It might shorten the life span of the device, make it thermal throttle, overheat and malfunction or in worst case start a fire. I would suggest that you instead put the items in a suitable container like a small small zip-lock bag or bobble wrap pouch when you store it anywhere it can get scratched.

price on PD 3.1 chargers has come way down, I paid top dollar for Apple 140W-28V bc it was first on the market. the Rocoren is a good deal from Ama zon, regularly see coupons for $10-$20 off so it's $59-$69 (which is low for 140W PD3.1 charger), Anker 717 also option but only 1-port. Anker 737 is the first PD 3.1 Battery bank on the market, it was $99 on Oct 11 prime sale, but now back to $150. I don't recommend the Kovol one. you can get a certified EPR cable for about $12. Club 3D 240W orange cable is one of five that I tested (it works and is legit PD3.1 cable) - only $12 because it's basically power-only (has usb2 480mb data transfer). only the 240w/40G cables get expensive b.c of the 40G (USB4/thunderbolt 3).

If you have other Fnirsi meters, like FNB48 or C-1, then this is ok, but in some ways it is worse. The LCD screen is way nicer, insanely high resolution, nice fonts, and viewed better. The LCD is only slightly larger, but it so much sharper with better contrast and viewing angles. Case is better, current handling is better, and menus are easier to navigate. At the same time, the main screen update rate is slower than on FNB48, even when refresh rate is set to fast in the menu. Like a lot. Mine come with same enormous styrofoam box as in this video. The device is small, and has own small (pretty nice) box, and it would be sufficient to put it in a cardboard envelope. Not, styrofoam box that is 10 times the size of the unit. So that is disappointing. Most of the interface is snappy, despite needing to draw so many pixels. I like FNB58 tho, I just wish the main screen update was faster. I have my own Python scripts (you can easily find them on github) to do data logging over USB, and this is why I like them. (Their Windows software is okish, but not easy to automate). Offline recording feature is very limited, because of rather small storage space (12MB). So you either use low sampling rate, or short recording duration. If you want to record for days, you cannot. Also the format is not documented, so not easy to load in own software.

Fnirsi FNB58 looks pretty, but no PD3.1 means I can't test any of a dozen new PD3.1 chargers like Anker 717, 737, Apple 140W, etc., or read any of the new 240W EPR PD3.1 cables. I would love an option that was not the Power-Z labs expensive $99 KM002C (soon to be KM003). but they are still only one that supports the newest Usb-c PD 3.1. I was hoping Fnirsi would offer a budget PD3.1 USB-C tester, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it's just same old features.

@@TechCornerTV AWESOME. this is GOOD news. I can't wait to see this. $50 option means my friends don't need to spend $99.99 on the Km002C/Km003 to get PD 3.1 testing which is what all USB-C testers in 2022+ should have.

@@neo256mb I just flashed the update. I indeed does support PD 3.1 with EPR and AVS but I don't know about 240W. It SHOULD be able to read the e-markers as that's something that can be easily implemented in FW, bu I don't think It'll be able to actually monitor 48V/5A
@neo256mb
@neo256mb Жыл бұрын
@@FOREST10PL Could you let me know if the Fnirsi can do the following. the KM002C I have now can do 3 important things: (1) plug into any of the new chargers 140W/28V PD 3.1 and analize the PD28V chargers and also does PD 28V trigger. The highest EPR PD3.1 chargers in 2022 are only 28V- 140W. so it has to be able to monitor that or else it's not really supporting PD3.1. in a couple years from now we may have chargers up to 48V, but that is a long way off. The PD 3.1 Cables are a different story. USB-IF approved the highest 240W-48V-5Amp cable already and it's on the market which replaces all 100W cables since the 240W with emark covers everything below as well. This 240W PD 3.1 cable is intended to be used on the first wave 140W - 28V EPR PD 3.1 chargers (a 100W cable will only negotiate at weaker 20V/5amps on the new 140W/28V charger and not the full 28V like the 240W cables can). In other words, USB-IF simplified the new USB-C cable so the EPR PD3.1 cable is already at highest level even if the chargers and devices in 2022 are at first stage of EPR (28V/140w). The 240W-48V cable is needed to fully work for this first wave of 28V-140W chargers, and next wave in 1-2 years of 36V chargers, and then more years, the ultimate 48V-240W EPR PD 3.1 chargers (without a need to change the cable since we already can buy the highest EPR power cable, PD 3.1 240W, today). (2) there is a feature where I can plug one side into any low usb power, and other port into any PD3.1 Cable like a 240W/48V/5amp Cable, it will read the Emark, and tell me all the information, vendor name, if vendor labeled it as 240W or 100W, and a bunch of other E-mark fields relevant to testing if 240W cable is legit or has emark in it. The KM002C from power-Z labs can already do PD3.1 240W cables. PD3.1 cables are all 240W cables, they are the only official USB-IF PD3.1 EPR cable (the 100W cable is only PD3.0 and was deprecated back in Dec 2021. the PD60 cables do not have emark chip and are SPR (standard power range)). If the FNirsi can not handle PD 3.1 cables (240W/48V/5a) then I'm not sure it's fully supporting PD 3.1? the KM002C device can indeed handle 240W cables already since they are the official PD 3.1 cables. (3) connect to a PC by USB cable and have another cable going to a charger, to capture the trace between the PD 3.1 charger to PD 3.1 Cable to the EPR device or a 28V Decoy pcb device. Then show on PC all the negotiated messages between the charger and the device so we can analyze if there is a problem on the Charger side or the device side with PD negotiation (or confirm all messages are good based on what you see of the trace in the km002 PC software). I can then share/email this trace file to someone else who can open it with the same software if we are working together on some open source project. the software for the KM002 PC side is free to download. This part is important since I'm already able to do this level of PD 3.1 testing with the km002. some people I know can not afford $99 km002C, and would like to help with troubleshooting for open source projects. if the Fnisi can do this , then there is a $50 low cost alternative to start helping. if Firnisi can not do this, then it's only the KM002 that is PD 3.1 capable of capturing traces and showing PD 3.1 negotiated messages. Please let me know thanks. can not recommend the Fnirsi unless I know that it can do the above. much appreciated.
@FOREST10PL
@FOREST10PL Жыл бұрын
@@neo256mb Sorry, I don't have any PD 3.1 power supplies to confirm these things but the device itself is able to handle 28V. The rest of your questions have been answered in the video. There's a separate "PC" port (micro USB) that can be used to power the device separately and gather data, albeit their PC software is quite meh. On the protocol sniffing, yes. You can see the CRC messages between the charger and the device. You can read the e-marker also but it doesn't have the Vendor names built-in, you only get the Vendor ID and you'll have to use google to find it's name (which is not that bad TBH). So yeah, we should wait for the response from the channel, but I don't see why it wouldn't. Apart from supporting voltages higher than 28V, there's nothing in PD 3.1 they couldn't just add in FW. Fingers crossed as it's waaaaaay cheaper than KM002

some minor fix suggestions on the GUI for FNIRSI in the upcoming firmware : 18:48 "SUMSUNGAFC" 21:20 Output numbering has no space with the label, could lead users to easily misread 5.00V as 15.00V, 9.00V as 29.00V, and so on. i hope FNIRSI read this comments section. 😉

For anyone else reading this comment, I just updated my FNB58 (Bluetooth version, though this detail shouldn't matter, really) to firmware V0.67, and it seems that FNIRSI has corrected both suggestions: 1. "SUMSUNGAFC" has been changed to "SAMSUNG AFC" (corrected Samsung and inserted space for visibility); 2. Output numbering now has a space to separate from the value, again for visibility. Example (Google 30W charger): 1 5.00V 3.00A 2 9.00V 3.00A 3 15.00V 2.00A 4 20.00V 1.50A 5 3.30-11.00V 3.00A 6 3.30-16.00V 2.00A 7 3.30-21.00V 1.50A I swear the single spaces are easier to read in person. Also they wouldn't have enough space for the last 3 lines in this case if double spacing was used, so yeah. Nice to know that they do listen to our feedback.
