Glad to see that the FN 545 came out. I was on the fence with the FNX-45 but I felt that the ambidextrous safety was too wide for me. Looking forward to this latest release as .45 ACP is a great choice to suppress a pistol without having to buy specialty ammo.

Great to see you putting content on youtube again. I wish I could afford to support you on patreon and hopefully I can save up to take one of your classes in the future. I have always loved 45 handguns. I carried a custom built 1911 for about 17-18 years until department started issuing firearms and I chose the Sig P220 in 45 until I finally retired after better than 25 years as a LEO. I always described the recoil of a 45, especially in a 1911 as a slow rolling type of recoil. Once you got used to it, it was something else. Arthritis after shooting 45 so much has limited my boom factor on 45, but I still it shoot and carry occasionally. Carry on & stafe safe brother.
@walcrow7319 Жыл бұрын
Got one along with the FNX-45. Got my 545 trigger down to just under 4 lbs polishing the FP block and striker spring. The grit in the pull is from the last few mm of the striker spring being compressed at the end of the pull as the wall breaks. That can be felt by taking the slide off and pushing the striker to the rear and feeling the spring compress. The FULL polish job on that area made a big difference along with the FP block. The gritty feeling is in those 2 areas, IMO. Good to see you like the 545 also.

There’s just something about a high capacity 45 that makes me happy. Also in regards to FN pistols not being so popular, I more so blame that on cost and commonality of accessories. Literally every other major manufacturer has better support in magazines, holsters, aftermarket parts and stuff like that. Fn magazines are more expensive than sig mags, and that’s saying something.
@aermotors Жыл бұрын
Great comment. The FN cost of admission just isn’t worth the squeeze to the vast and I mean VAST majority of shooters. As Aaron said, they don’t do a great at marketing because sadly I don’t think they have to with the mil/3 letter cuck contracts. Us civis are merely an after(birth) thought of how can they skim a few more bucks. If I wasn’t so deep in Glock I would consider completely switching to the FN 5XX series, but they just turn me off with how the civi market is an afterthought for them and merely a way to increase their bottom line.

Would love to see a review on some of the cheap Amazon dots, specifically the Cyelle Wolf PRO, and the Votatu PMD504. I think it might be interesting to see just how far, or not, the cheap dots have come. The Votatu actually impressed me for it's price. CLick adjustments, Multiple Reticles, Comes with a mount, and cover, as well as 2 batteries. Just an idea. I know they're nothing serious, merely a measuring stick of sorts. I also understand that could be a bit of a slippery slope for an excellent reviewer. Cheers.

Great review, I was very interested in this one, but the FN price barrier is just hard for me to get over, especially since I’m fully committed to Glock (19,17,20,21,40,43x) for neigh half the price. If these were in the $750ish range I think it could actually be a true competitor to Glock, but at +$1000 it’s a very hard sell.

When you look at a G21 Gen 5 is a $385 difference at most gun shops. Add night sights and a threaded barrel and you knock that difference down to less than $150. With that you get better ergonomics and capacity. But if you're already set up for all Glocks I get it. But I think $1000 is pretty good for what this gun is.

When I break-in in a new pistol, I use grease on the metal-on-metal contact surfaces, especially the trigger mechanism and clean/reapply every 500 rds or so. My favorite GP oil is Ballistol. The last pistol I worked was my 2nd XTEN that has over 3k rds and the trigger is incredibly smooth… and I have a NIB XTEN to compare with. I’m looking forward to starting work on the M&P Compact 2.0 10mm after I pick it up this afternoon. This treatment works for Glocks as well, and I went from factory triggers, to a “custom” trigger, back to factory. The 10mm is the gold standard for duty/defense; the Norma spec loads (not so much 10mm Lite) are designed for that. A byproduct is bear/trail/large game defense/hunting especially w hardcast. While not as powerful as a .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum etc. you are getting significant capacity etc. in a pistol over a revolver. The 9mm looks cool mag dumping… but not as good as people think when it comes to stopping multiple threats we’re seeing more and more of. Stay safe, and carry on!

The 509 series triggers are great. A nice clean, sharp break. They break in nicely. Problem is, people don’t actually shoot their guns enough to break them in.

Modern guns shouldn't need a break in. I own a small arsenal and my 509T is the only purchase I regret and got rid of. I literally sat at my desk and dry fired thousands of times trying to see of the 180 grit sandpaper trigger would smooth out to no avail. Absolute garbage for the price I paid.
