This is the maiden flight of my modified Prandlt-D wing using the same cross sections down the wing and the twist as the original Prandlt-D as tested by NASA's research flight team over at Neil Armstrong Research center.
My original one met an unfortunate end and after thinking about it in the back of my head for a year and looking forward to an interview with Red Jensen, the chief pilot of the Prandlt-D, I decided to try this design. it's super simple, and it works!
I will link plans and build description in a short while so check back
thanks for watching!

Great Video, love that advanced aerodynamics. You really can see all the adverse yaw totally reversed in that turn. Great design and build work!

Great video. When you started out I wasn't terribly encouraged with the likelihood of success but success is exactly what you achieved. As you know my eyesight is poor, so I had difficulty following the plane in the air but the sound of it and the occasional flyby was enough to know you did excellent. it's easy to understand how you keep trying. Great flight. John from Louisville.

This plane is a sliver for much of the flight, so don't feel bad. I plan to make a few more videos to highlight what makes this wing concept special. is is project phase #2 now to get phase 3 started... putting this wing on other craft and loosing the tails.

paint one wing a dark color and the other white. This helps discerning direction of turn by the color of the low wing.

Yeah, once the initial balance and trim issues are solved, it handles nicely. I had several challenges getting mine sorted. But well worth it.

Congrats to your success! With the wings a little more swept back you'll get more pitch stability. If you wish... I'm still at the construction desk with my own Prandtl/Horten project and I'm happy to see more and more videos popping up on that subject. Thanks for sharing!

@@matthewallen3375 I'm going build it as a H IIIe, which is my favourite powered Horten plane. But my house is a construction site this year, so other projects have to wait until this is done...

its so cool seeing how many people are having success building diy prandtl wings, im planning to make my own for slope soaring from foamboard i hope mine flies nice too

@@matthewallen3375 also would you be able to test a few maneuvers in a video? im interested to see how a prandtl wing handles things like stall turns and barrel rolls as those can be problematic for normal flying wings without any stabilizers

Just visually it seems like the NASA one had more backwards wing sweep , is there a reason to choose a certain angle?
@matthewallen3375

V1, I started out, with a replica. Swept and tapered. And the flex was high. V2 I just wanted to maximize the material usage, and make it as quick and simple as possible to build. It's a good question. I will try and answer it, but I am not sure understand it fully. Sweep does two things, The original sweep would assist with the balance, it also extends the chord and slightly increase lift, and reduces the drag area. So it tends to be a hair faster. But a shorter wing has faster roll response. And is less stable typically.(It's why fighter have shorter wings)
