It is unlikely that the eggs will hatch at this point. We have no way of knowing why. It could be environmental, such as temperatures, humidity percentages, oxygen levels at high altitude, etc. It could be biological with something just being off at the time the eggs were created. It is very unlikely that either Jackie or Shadow are infertile since they have already had 2 sets of chicks together - in 2019 and 2022.
When eggs don’t hatch, Jackie and Shadow may start withdrawing from incubation eventually (they usually over incubate for several weeks, details can be found in our Activity Log). Withdrawal is always a process and it happens gradually with longer and longer breaks. Shadow may be a little bit more stubborn than Jackie (this is something we have observed in the past). Left unattended, the eggs may eventually be scavenged by ravens or other animals. The nest cameras are live 24/7/366 weather and maintenance permitting.

this was so funny, Shadow was so caught up in what he was doing that he didn't even hear her coming, then he refused to recovery and afterwards Jackie was trying to be so quiet she refused to even put her foot back down. "Im sorry, I'm sorry" he wouldn't even look at her. Then he just flies off. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 typical male. 🤣🤣🤣 I love these majestic birds. ❤

Shadow happily piddling with moving and twisting the fluff in close… This is people’s version of daydreaming, I think. Poor sweet Shadow went straight to the Dadbrella, but was too startled to even collapse it, at first. Jackie’s sweet talk finally convinced him. I think Jackie felt a little bad for Shadow, too - she was extra gentle in getting him to go.

Poor guy! He was so involved in his usual rearranging & fluffing he didn't know Jackie was anywhere around! And he did not appreciate being scared like that. That was so cute, poor Shadow😂. I Love these two so much. I’m pretty sure they both think out of 3 eggs, that at least 1 will hatch. This is why they haven’t given up yet. I believe they died the first week of March during the 2nd snow storm. Jackie turned the 🥚 and her right wing caught up on a branch for several hours during the night. You could see her legs, the 🥚 were exposed to the freezing air. I worried at the time, but I think that’s when we lost them. So sad for our sweet 🦅🦅

That was so funny, poor Shadow! He got his shock just like Jackie bydid when Fiona hopped on her back that night. I’m so sad about this clutch not hatching but they still seemed determined and are mating again. Can someone clarify if they indeed will try again by the end of spring? What happens to these eggs if not predated and would they build another nest for new eggs in that case?
