Ended up going with the 2022! Am kind of a noob when comes to all the technical stuff so I was wondering what you’d suggest for a DAP between the Atell and Kern SP3000 and the Sony Walkman WM1ZM2 specifically for the Focal Utopias?

@@PlugWoW I assumed you pick portable player for outdoor use. But Utopia is open design that required a quiet room to enjoy. So I would suggested try something else and play it indoor. I will go for something like Audio Technica AT-HA5050H or Copland DAC 215. Change the stock tube when fund allow for some NOS Telefunken , Siemens CCa (6922) tubes.

my problem with Focal. you buy a product for say $4000. 6 months later it is in stock for $2500. Focal Arche headphone amp/dac in Australia $4000 plus Clear headphones $2200AU. Now 1 year later you can buy the two of them together, $1999. i feel i have been had. so pay over $6000 then reduced by $4000. outrageous!,

Lovely review Sarah,welldone! Berry takes to eq well,OG utopia sub bass is in negative dB territory.....lf you eq that to the new utopia sub bass level that would match the highs and sound warmer as well..Sp3000 is my dream at the moment,got to see my bank manager first though. 🤣😂Thanks.

The 2022 Utopia’s are way too dark, they have lost that upper treble sparkle that made them so addictive to listen to. The new version is warmer and closer to the Clear MG’s as the new M shaped grille pulls the treble back quite a bit. I demoed them side by side for a few hours and the OG Utopia is far superior. The only way I would recommend the new version is if you are really treble sensitive and hate sparkly treble presentation. You can buy the OG’s for half the price now of the 2022’s so there is really no contest.

Exactly! I bought my 2nd Utopia 2016 at US$1280 and condition like new! I prefer single ended over balanced connection because of the vocal is better.

The boosted treble on the original is not neutral, if you want to get closer to what the music really sounds like the 2022 is it. If you always want a super hifi presentation I guess I can see people liking the original.

Despite your claim of listening to Time "...hundreds of times.", and knowing the track "...really, really well.", the fact is Roger Waters does not sing on the track at all. David Gilmour is the lead vocalist on Time.
