Nice informative set of videos! How does the Focus 2-3 perform compared to the SeaWind(?) I see in the video?

Thank you for the nicely made videos. They're informative and enjoyable. Is there any noticeable difference between Focus V2 and V3 in sailing?

I see that you dont use deck eyelets no 1 and 5 for anything. What are your thoughts about that?

Why do you make changes? In what way will that be better?

you say you had to extend the boom. How did you do that. I assume they are pre-cut and so there would be no option to extend them.

I use a small length of plastic and drill a hole on my hobby lathe. There is an insert in the end of the boom and you use a small screw to fit the boom extension. A friend of mine who also bought a Focus 3 found the boom was about 1 cm longer than mine so did not need to be extended.

Great video and advice. However, I'm a newbie to sailboats, not rc boats just sailboats, and I bought this boat for my first one. I like your video but I need help with the rigging. It seems that no one is showing how to do it. And unfortunately I'm not up to speed with the terminology. Is there a video that you know of that can help me. Thanks for your time

Some advice The video shows how to mount a sling which after being attached to the boom is threaded through the first or second deck eyes and looped over the deck hook. The back stay is fitted as per the instructions. The sheets are the lines which connect the booms to the winch cable. The jib sheet goes through the last of the forward deck eyes (I have seen people use the second last eye, just experiment.) The main sheet goes through the eye on the raised post, I had to twist this eye by 90 degrees so the sheet runs better. The only other potential issue is the down haul or the line used to to tension the front or luff of the sail. Ensure the samm hole in the boom vang is at the top. The video shows how to do this if the fitting is supplied upside doen. Just run the line through the small hole in the vang up though the eye in the sail (called the clew) back down to the bottom of the vang fitting. You then fit a bowsie before thresding the line through the end of the vang and back to the bowsie. Hope this helps a little

how does this model go against the DF95 and against regular One Metre boats?

I have the Focus 2 and enjoy sailing it a lot. Being new to RC Sailing, my Focus 2 seems to plow ie water over the bow in high winds. Is there an adjustment I can make to alleviate that. Thanks Dan in Duncan BC

Hi Dan I assume you are talking about going down wind. With both my Focus 2 and 3 they tend to dig the nose in then lift. In these coditions they are very sensitive to the helm and I try to avoid going directly down wind when the breeze is strong. I assume you have the boat balanced for going upwind. If not then you can move the mast forward or aft and this may also help controlling the boat down wind.

@@JulieNelson-og4fe Thank you for the reply, it plows both downwind and reaches. Is there a limit to moving mast forward or back?

Hi Dan Both my Focus 2 and Focus 3 do not dip their nose on reaches only down wind and then just in strong winds. I am unsure what the cause may be but some thoughts suggestions that may help. Going up wind is the boat well balanced needing minimal rudder to keep it on track? If not then move the mast step, for both my Focus 2 and 3 the mast step is just set a little forward of centre. Also the position of the booms for going up wind will control weather or lee helm. If you move the mast step you will need to adjust the forestay back stay and luff tension on the jib and likely the leech tension. I set the vang reasonably tight with just a little play. Sorry I cannot be of much help but keep experimenting. As I said my boats do not dig their bows in when going across the wind.

@@JulieNelson-og4fe OK looks like I have some experimenting to do. Thanks again.
