I used this for mushrooms recently on my R6, settings depend on the size of the object, distance and lens what settings you have to use. Lens Sigma 105 Macro F2.8. Settings 10 picture's and on the scale 1 to 10 I used 3. With these settings I had the complete mushroom sharp, and the background stays nice blurry. Ofcoarse because you keep the lens (nearly) open. Before I did some testing at home to learn the needed settings for the lens.

Very beautiful scene. I love the fog in this scenario. So the R5 automatically stacks all the photos for you? Or you have to merge them together in post-processing?

No, I have to do it manually. I get a couple of raw files with different focus. For such a scene here I can take 5 different focus brackets in less than a second. I think with the IBIS active I could even handhold in such a scenario, if I ever forget my tripod ;-)

What I did for the non-automatic 14bit focus stacking is enable touch shutter and the 2nd timer. Then just tap on the screen. I think on a tripod with a wide aperture you don't need THAT many photos for landscape anyway? I guess for macro it's a different story and you need tons of photos. Also when doing it in automatic it is very unclear to me at which distances it really photographs during shooting (it's also annoying to figure out in the edit). Is there any guide on this? Does your 1st focus point matter or does it just go from MFD to infinity? And even then, in which steps? Are they linear etc.?
@mibreit-photo
@mibreit-photo 4 жыл бұрын
It always starts at first focus Point and goes to infinity. And with narrow focus increment I get good overlap. A complete stack takes less than a second and there will also be just minimal movement between the shots. That's the big plus. But 12 bit is a drawback. I will test with your suggestions too, thanks
@rudyvanos
@rudyvanos 4 жыл бұрын
@@mibreit-photo thanks for replying, but then how do the increment values translate? Does it mean that if the increment is small it might not go to infinity?

Focus bracketing, I know that's what Canon is calling it, but its really focus stacking. My question is how do you enable focus bracketing where you have a bracket sequence & number of brackets. Example: a series of 5 shots - 1 & 2 under and + 1 & 2 over and 0 in the middle . I know the settings for it is in the orange tab, where you have bracket sequence & number of brackets but how is it enabled to shoot a series of brackets

I struggle a lot with this feature. Capturing landscapes I usually require 3-5 focus layers, but setting this number of shots in the bracketing feature will not give me the results I want. I was hoping that the camera, knowing which lens is attached and the closet focusing distance, will evenly split the remaining focus range according to the number of shots I typed in. But even with setting the increment to 10 will require me to shoot way more than 30 images, depening on how close the foreground elements are. What am I missing?
@mibreit-photo
@mibreit-photo 3 жыл бұрын
That's strange. For me it usually stops after 4 or 5. I just set the number to 40 or so, but it is never reached when I shoot my typical wide angle landscapes. Maybe there's a problem with the lens you have. Are the photos too close together, or does it continue shooting into infinity where all is already unsharp anyways?

Interesting, didn't know it would automatically stop if it reached infinity. Like the comment from Klaus below I wonder how the camera determines that it has reached infinity. What if the objective lenses aren't properly calibrated and it would have to focus 'beyond' the lenses infinity setting in order to get horizon or stars in focus? Obviously it wouldn't be hard for it to just detect via phase pixels or just local histogram analysis if it has to go further or not but then there would be an 'automatic' mode for the focus bracketing which I don't see in the R5's manual.

Hi, great set of videos in the forest. This is a lazy question, as I could read up in the manual but as you have been so good to provide this video, I'm sure you can answer. When focus bracketing is activated, the benefit is obviously that the camera will automatically take the images, moving focus on each shot, rather than you doing it. Are the images combined in camera or do you do this is post processing?

Servus Michael, nur zu gut kenn ich das "Zeitproblem" beim manuellen Stacken. Ich kenn auch diese Funktion u. Hab sie auch in meiner Kamera. So wies aussieht, ganz gleich aufgebaut. Variable I. RI. unendlich?? LG Klaus
@andreasbrand3191
@andreasbrand3191 4 жыл бұрын
