Saw one of these in my Dentists tank and I never forgot it! He was so cute that I took videos of him. It would have been great if you could have filmed the way these fish flounder (no pun intended) from one rest point to another, as fast as they can, as if they’ll fall into the abyss if they stop floundering! Poor things. Then, as soon as they get to that next hang on spot, they hold on for dear life with their little fin hands! It’s adorable! But even cuter are the eyes bugging out looking around very shifty-like, and looking very grumpy. What an awesome creation!! The fish is no longer in my Dentist’s tank. ☹️ So, I was really happy when I did a Google search and actually found some info on this great fish. Thank you.

My flamehawkfish is my favourite fish in my tank. He's been with me through thick and thin + a velvet disease once before. He survived. Trooper. They have actual personalities. He is an absolute pig as well. He will eat 3 fishes worth of food. He is annoyingly aggressive to other fish though, but doesnt do damage to them.

I just adopted an aquarium that has 2 clownfish (I'm not certain what variety they are yet), a goby fish, a shrimp of some sort, and a hawkfish. I thought the clownfish would be my favorites by far but the flame hawkfish is really growing on me quickly. I just wish he wouldnt be hiding out of sight so often. Whenever he does come in siight he's a lot of fun to watch. Cool video mate PS I think my clownfish are trying to dig their way to china (:

Do you still have the tank? How are the inhabitants doing? I love my flame hawkfish and was curious how much you feed yours? Mine is goofy and always late to the party/feast. So I overfed my tank for a little while but realized the long-term issues it would cause. So I try and slip Flame Boy a snack via pipette/baster after lights go out.

@@brettbarrett2533 unfortunately the fish died in a heat wave. I had an ice bottle but it was not enough for that day. But I always tried to put food more in the direction of my fish that were less active in eating times. They seemed more likely to swoop if the food dropped fairly close to them

I have a 130 gallon tank. My little flamies always play chasing games and hide and seek games. I have a girl and boy, hoping they will have babies someday. "Pearl and Blaze" I also called them "My Little Sillys" Pearl always dances around the tank. Blaze really is just looking around with his bug eyes, like as if hes confused on where he is. Funniest fish in my tank! Did I mention they do these crazy staring contests? Edit: How does pearl dance? you ask. Pearl barely perches. The only time she perches is for no reason and just than after 3.7 seconds just flies back to the top of the dank, dancing on each side. Yes. So fast! My blue spot blenny does this do but he does perch longer.

LOL I couldn't agree more, they are freaking hilarious, just crack me up. it's the combination of just sitting around and those bug eyes checking things out. Just oozing personality. These and the Cow Fish are probably my two favorites. Of course their looks are in stark contrast to their predatory nature. Doesn't seem to fit.

The reds really do pop out. It would be interesting to watch this fish, do they have a favorite spot in the tank?
@ReefBum9 жыл бұрын
Yes, a vivid red coloration. One does like a certain perch when it is feeding time :)

Great looking fish! I've always wanted a Hawkfish since I would love a striking red color in my reef. I tried a Flame Angel once before but the gamble was not in my favor; it picked at my SPS. Do you mind if I ask how much you've purchased yours for? My LFS has them for $70 which I find to be a bit expensive. Thank you.

My lfs said they were very aggressive. I want want so bad though. He was so goofy and so much fun to watch! He was darting around and just kept his one me me as well. Would one that is about 2 inches be safe with baby clownfish?
@ReefBum5 жыл бұрын
Personally, I have never seem them act aggressive towards other fish. You just have to be careful with shrimp.
@piranhalegify4 жыл бұрын
Will they get along with a yellow watchman goby?
@ReefBum4 жыл бұрын
Not sure about that but from what I understand you just have to be careful about keeping certain crustaceans like small shrimp with Hawkfish.

If you get more than one should you add them at the same time? Thank you
@ReefBum6 жыл бұрын
That's the way I have always done it.....not sure what would happen if you added one later with another one in the tank. Perhaps with a large tank it would be ok.

I’ve had a flame hawk now for around 6 months had one when I had a reef tank around 10 years ago loved them , but I’ll tell you this my new one I have now is mean , put in a black cap basslet 4 hours after I put him in the tank dead mangled him beyond belief . Perhaps mine is just unusually aggressive being from the wild but I would be fair warned .
