Yes! Test, test, test and test some more! I’m testing my launch fragrances as I type. Our little company has gone through so many changes, vessels, wicks, waxes and even a name change! I, like so many others began pouring candles as a hobby. Then, the famous words, “I’m going to sell my candles!” Ok, great! Then what? We finally got our LLC almost a year ago and we have a Shopify store gathering dust and tumbleweeds, lol! It’s ok though, because I do want to make sure everything is as perfect as possible. Whatever “I have control over” like making safe, strong candles is first. One day at a time will lead to our launch day. Thank you, thank you, Erica. It took me 9 months of testing. If we want to do it “right,” then we need to test enough that we are comfortable selling that product. And it’s a selling point for me to talk to customers about what went into producing that item.

Erica!!! Thank you so much for this video. You're not lying at all when you talk about pricing for profit per candle vs an overall profit. I've spent all of last year and most of 2022 testing and developing my line so I was 1000% confident in my product when I launched over the summer. I actively engage with my customers via social media and in person at pop-up shops (b/c building rapport matters) but I'm only now realizing the importance of following the pricing formula. I used COGS x 2 for wholesale and added $7 for retail (only b/c i feared no one would want to buy an unknown product from an unknown brand for a higher cost) however, I'm 100% regretting this now. I did an event on Sat and sold out of my best seller yet again and that's when it truly hit me that I'm short selling myself and it will take years before I start turning an overall profit if I continue to price my candles so low. It will be hard to announce a price increase to my customers and I'm sure they will be disappointed to receive the news as well but I believe they will continue to support b/c I'm on top of everything else where engagement, marketing, customer service and everything else is concerned. To anyone reading this, the experts know what they're talking about when they share all this free advice with us. Put your fears aside and perfect your craft so you can price and sell your product with the confidence it deserves! Thanks again Erica

I love your podcasts and listen in while I’m boxing my wax melts and packaging for my candles this evening for a pop-up holiday open house tomorrow. I’m extremely greatful for your content and transparency about starting a candle business. I luckily have a marketing background as my main business is graphic design and marketing and I’m very excited to use my knowledge for my own candle business. Started testing this week! Thanks again for the inspiration. Yours were the first KZbin candle making videos that we watched, so my husband and I have a soft spot in our hearts for your videos. As much as I want just get my items out there officially as an LLC (stepping out of gifting and off books bookkeeping) quickly. I'm focused on the quality, will it be sustainable for me at this time and future forecasts. I'm loving these podcast sessions. 💖 I hope you will have one, possibly in the future, on shipping. If there are cost saving options for businesses utilizing free supplies through USPS but would like to save on flat rate priority shipping cost, would be helpful. 💖

I'm in banking and I'd add, track your finances in some sort of professional way. If you do make it to the point of going into a bank and asking about a small business loan, they're going to want to see you at least try on the book keeping end of thing. And be HONEST with your numbers. Do NOT fudge your numbers. And even if you don't get the loan, a good loan officer will help you. If you come across as a prospect, they will nurture you.

I wonder whos going to return a candle I mean we all buy candles that is burn so it does not have to be perfect because its burning but it has to meet the standards and it is a hand made not made by machines for me I am not so giving to the buyer because the buyer need to know few things like the size of the place how balanced is the table to put the candle on so that the wax melts equally and things like that, Thank you.

Im confused.. You said to do everything to reduce the cost, that means buying products in bulk. So if I bought wax or smth for 20k and made sales only for 10k, am I in the red? Why ? After all, these products I can use them and earn more on them in the future.
