Melody is so important with slide. I've always played slide as an expression of a vocal part. I go in with the mindset that it is vocals on a guitar, it just seems to work the exact same way as vocals in terms of how you transition. Great video!

"Vocals on guitar" - I really like that. I think that really gets to the heart of what good slide playing is all about...that singing sound coming out of a guitar.

@@BluesGuitarInstitute Exactly! I have been concentrated on playing slide in A440 for a few years, and one time Warren Haynes told me to approach it like you are playing the vocals when in in standard. That always stuck with me!

Congratulations! Excelent video. What do you think to play slide on a resonator x parlor guitars ? I play on a resonator, but sometimes I wanna a more warm Song With slide. A parlor is a good option? Thanks

Hey Adriano and thanks for the comment! I mostly play slide on my resonator guitar, but as you see in the video I opted for my parlor for this lesson. Just wanted a change. I say go for it, but it really comes down to whether you like the sound. You could use a regular acoustic too. I did for years until I got my resonator. For me, I think a resonator will always be the "go-to" for my slide playing.

Thanks! This is a Harlin Brothers guitar from the 1930s. Not sure exactly when it was made but somewhere in that decade as best I can tell.

I am currently a beginner practicing Open G slide as a BGI member (the lessons are helping, but it is slow progress). To transpose this to Open G, do I just lower everything by 7 semitones or raise by 5 semitones? Which way, up or down is best? Sorry if my theory is lacking.
