With the cylinder head cracking issue, do you run the square gasket and the fire ring ? Or just the square gasket ? Also noticed the way you had the lines for the coolant were flipped around when you went to install them

Very informative! Taking off the axle was a smart move and only a few extra steps. I only have one gripe: Camera operator should've used a light. It would've helped tremendously since there was a lot of backlighting from the open roll-up door. It also would've helped with focusing the camera at times. But, hindsight, as they say, is 20/20. Still, a great walkthrough of how to swap out the factory turbo.

@dham992 жыл бұрын
that gasket over the manifold/fire ring section blocks off like half the valley...isnt that a hindrance? I have the BNR3071 on its way..so my biggest concern is getting all the cooling and oil lines right, especially the vacuum lines. I only want to be in there once...so torque specs, line routing, etc I'm going to really go over a ton before actually mounting. The axle removal is definitely one of the biggest 'good tips' ive seen on a BT install... thanks for that! Also the reminder to drain the coolant lines from behind the block/turbo. I already have all new'ish Motul trans/diff/brake fluids since i track my car, but I think I'll go ahead and get all new fluids just so i have it fresh for a turbo set up. I'm assuming the turbo installation instructions lists the torque specs on the new components like feed/return lines..?
@tbr.performance2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it comes with a bunch of paperwork. To be honest I haven’t looked at it since 2016 when I got my turbo so I couldn’t tell you exactly what they state nowadays. The gasket is just a safeguard for the head. It’s an experiment and I’ve had no performance issues doing it. The opening is the same size as the head port so it doesn’t get in the way. It only experiences turbulent gasses not direct port flow. I took one off a couple years ago and it had barely deformed.
@johncadden83692 жыл бұрын
I just installed mine. I haven't fired up the car yet though because I have leaks. I was just wondering why your coolant lines are reversed from all the other videos I have watched. You put the coolant line from the back of the turbo to the block when the other videos show that one going to the hose on the driver side water outlet box.

Being that you guys ran into the hot charge pipe fitment issue... Do you think I'll run into the same problem with the Cobb hot charge pipe going to the Cobb fmic? Sorry for overwhelming you, but you have the experience with installation of these turbos, so I figured I'd shoot my shot 🤷. Thanks either way. Great stuff bro.

Bare minimum a exhale BOV kit and a better intercooler with a new tune from your tuner. Although most people opt to get a high flow/cat less downpipe, 3” exhaust, aftermarket intake/green filter, and catch can for blow by. It all depends on your power goals, anything past 350hp and you need AUX fuel/ HPFP, past 450hp you are in the zone of needing a built engine.
