I bought the ST partially for it's uniqueness. However, my benchmark for uniqueness is seeing easily 7-8 WRX's & GTI's for every FoST I see rolling around. The Mazda is super tight, but the lack of reliability and hard to find lower mileage models in my area scared me off a bit.

I have a Speed6. Its a great engine, but they definitely have their flaws. The Gen 1 especially. Just be prepared to put the work in. For me, I wasnt prepared, and now I'm having to replace the head. If you get a Speed3/6 get your valves cleaned, replace the timing chain when it starts rattling. Make sure you get fuel pump internals, its peace of mind.

If here was a speed 3 the same year as ur at it will be far better. New Mazda interior is fuckin nice as hell and they would fix all the issues the other engine had like the fuel pump internals. So comparing an older car to that car isn’t really accurate. I have a Mazdaspeed 3 and barely had issues and I have driven the st and it feels more electronic. I don’t like it that’s my opinion

Need to remember, the Speed platform is older then these new generations of turbo 4-cylinder cars. Without a doubt that’s why the St/RS and even the new GTI have more comfort and better ECUs. To my understanding, when the Speed3 & 6’s were developed, they really only thought about raw power and feeling connected to the car. If the Speed platform continued, I believe they would be right up against these new cars or even better than them. Some people even think that the Speeds are better then the new cars 🤷🏼‍♂️. But I love them all and love seeing 4-cylinder cars beat 6 & 8 cylinder vehicles.

I've had my speed 3 for almost 2 months now. It had 145k when I bought it. After driving it for a couple months every day, I have come to the conclusion that I needed this car 10 years ago. It's an overall great car. A few bugs. But almost have them all worked out. I personally love this interior. Being a Gen 1, the seats are much more stylish in my opinion. Not like someone went crazy with a rattle can on the doors and seats like the Gen 2. And the glow in the instrument cluster gets more style points. And it still has a buttload of room in the back, especially after I fold the seats down. The aftermarket exhaust that came on the car when I bought it, is extremely throaty. Not too loud. Not too soft. Just the perfect tone. And the color, the cosmic blue pearl is amazing. Everybody loves it.

I have a GEN 2 but have always liked the Gen1's toned down interior. In the UK though the Gen1 is really punished on Road Tax( over £500 a year) because it knocks out so much CO2. The Gen 2 is quite a bit less because the CO2 level meets Euro5 standards, plus it's really hard to find a Gen 1 with low mileage now. Shame Mazda stopped making Speed3's as they are great cars.

Both cars in fact use the same global C-1 platform/chassis. It was developed jointly with Ford, Mazda, and Volvo, since Ford had a stake in both other companies at the time. This same platform rolls under the Mazda 5 (RIP), the Ford C-Maxx, and the Volvo S-40 and C-30.

Also gotta count a ST is in 30k here à a speed in good shape can be found under 10k right now there is one here for 15k and it as 10k miles on it and all the mods for a reliable 320hp 350 torque. The Focus RS is faster stock. Mod for mod with a reputable tuner i.e. Freektune, Purple Drank, Nishan etc. The Speed3 will eat it. Mazda and Ford used to be partners back in the gap. So it's not suprising that Ford released a car that's pretty much the exact same, down to being only available as a hatchback and only manual transmission offered. They are both badass vehicles though, I used to own a silver genpu.

Have 60k on my 15 ST3. Full bolts and haven't had any issues whats so ever. Great daily, take it to the mountains for snowboarding, throw the mountain bike on the rack in the summer. Drive it to the beach when time allows.. Great power for what it is and reliable. She is quick for sure and have been enjoying it, but as always that power bug still hangs around but in a FWD platform 300 is the sweet spot. Keep up the good work Cameron, loving the channel

Owned a speed 3 for about 2 months before I blew the engine, completely stock as well. Then got a decent deal on a '18 FoST. Loved the Speed 3's styling, power, and rawness. The FoST has been a reliable daily for 9~ months now. Put in a 12' sub and replaced all the door speakers since it was an ST1. Recently went with a cobb + stratified tune which brought out more rawness that we all crave. I'm forever a mazda fanboy, but gotta give it to the FoST. I'd talk more about the handling on both cars if I could... but just know whatever decision you guys make, they're both amazing cars.

I’ve had both aswell. It’s not close the ST is a much more fun car to drive. The MS3 is honestly one of the worst cars I ever owned. It just felt awfully cheap in every aspect other than power train. The MS3 can be made faster, no question but if you enjoy driving and turning at all, the ST is your car.
