In this video, we show you how to record a great sounding metal guitar, using a Blackstar TVP ID:15 amp and a Gibson Les Paul. We used Softube plug-ins to generate tone and effects, and show you how to re-amp, using Focusrite Control and the Clarett 2Pre.

@@kairay1000 Outputs 3 and 4 are assignable. Watch again when he creates the custom mix for output 3, and listen when he explains about muting the monitors, and the mic to stop from feedback. The guitar is still hot in that custom mix, which is outputting to the amp, therefore the amp will play as if he's only playing through the amp. Hence the name, Re-Amp, for this technique.

How about impedance differences between line output and instrument level signal ? It can work as a sound but not the same way you plug in to amp. That's why you need a reamp box between interface line output to guitar amp.

I just got the Clarett 4Pre USB so I can record DI guitar and re-amp them. I saw this video and tried to re-amp with an unbalanced cable directly connected to the guitar amp from the Clarett output. It sounds every bit as good as using a balanced cable connected to a Radial Re-amp box then to the amp. No artifacts, no colorization. It's like I'm plugging my guitar directly into the amp. I haven't been able to re-amp guitars with any other interface without a Re-amper. Can anyone speak to this phenomenon ?

Word! Don't you need to change the impedance of the line out so that it plays nice in the amp?
@compucat
@compucat 7 жыл бұрын
You can get away with a direct line out, but the signal will not only have impedance issues, but it will also be much hotter than an amp would expect to see. The proper way to do this is to use a reamping box like Radial's X-Amp or Reamp JCR.

@FocusriteTV
@FocusriteTV 5 жыл бұрын
Clarett 2Pre features “ComboXLR” input sockets (female) for connecting microphones, instruments (e.g., guitar), or line-level signals via XLR or ¼” jacks as appropriate. Either TRS (balanced) or TS (unbalanced) jack plugs can be used for instruments or line level signals. XLR/Jack cables are not included with our products and will need to be purchased separately.

@@adaozgurozkefeli8734 I ended up micing the cabinet and running two different mics into Scarlett. A Shure SM57 and a Condenser AKG P120. You do have a chord off the front of the ID260 Blackstar amp that can run USB, but the lack of controlling the volume depending on your computer and soundcard just really sucks for it. So I also ended up buying another amp. A Marshall DSLHR100 head. I just mic them, even though this head can record as well I have not done it yet. Waiting on my new cabinet to get here first. Hope this helps though.

I have a question. For some reason I am hearing the DI-signal as well as the signal after plugins (Stereo Out in Logic Pro X). I am sure this is an issue with my Focusrite control settings, something like Direct Monitoring on older Focusrite products, but I cannot figure out how to configure it. Any tips? I want to hear the stereo out through my monitors obviously, but not the DI-signal.

What? I thought you need a re-amp box to send signal from interface to guitar amp due to unbalanced high impedance signal? I'm confused...
@albertonunez8233
@albertonunez8233 7 жыл бұрын
I think the outputs come out balanced from the interface from the back so it's clean and ready to go into the amp, would need a balanced cable vs. instrument cable coming out of the back to the amp I believe but not 100%, maybe Focusrite can chime in.

@andrec1675

It will be extremely loud and could damage the amplifier. If you have an fx loop on your amplifier you could plug the output into there. Then you could run amp Sims on your computer as well. I could be wrong about this though.

Why you must play 2 times if you can copy panning left or right, o is not the same?.
@FocusriteTV

That's certainly an option too but it ultimately achieves a different result. The slight differences and minor performance inconsistencies can add depth and fullness to the track when combined and panned this way. John // Focusrite UK 🇬🇧

Just bought the Clarett 2pre USB. Very disappointed from the DI (recording metal with both seymour duncan and emg pickups). It's supposed to have more headroom for the instrument input but in reality it clips with the knob at 8 o'clock - almost all the way down- were as my old Scarlett (1gen) would go at least 9 o’clock before clipping. So all that extra dBu's of headroom is more marketing lies and the device will not perform as advertised. Sound quality is better but is not worth the price difference.
@FocusriteTV
@FocusriteTV 6 жыл бұрын
The Clarett 2Pre USB has significantly more headroom than a 1st gen Scarlett. Have you discussed this with our tech support team? If all of the other variables in your set up remain the same as when you were recording with the Scarlett, this shouldn't be an issue. You can contact our support team for further assistance here: bit.ly/FocusriteSupport

Julio Justiniano ribbon mics use metal inside like a speaker. Its less complicated, more rugged, but less quality sound then condenser mic. Condenser Mic has electronic components to make it work (capacitor, resistor ect). Ribbon uses sound to vibrate the metal ribbon to create electricity. Condenser need electricity ( phantom power) to make the components work. Hope this helps

+DIGTHEBIGRIGG1 In fairness, the vast majority of the music industry uses Mac computers-and for good reason too. Everything is more closed, so while yes, there are less options, everything is almost certainly guaranteed to work. This also means that music is one of the most expensive hobbies there is, haha. I have a PC, mainly cuz i don't do much recording outside of demos and a song here and there. Saving up to buy a SM57 and single input interface though, which will be a huge upgrade from the usb mic i have lol. Oh, and also, apparently there are PC's with thunderbolt ports. Not sure how well that works, but whatever.
