Sometimes I just love that rawness of the acoustic through the microphone
@ryangroom29593 жыл бұрын
Hell yeah, I mean I refuse to record acoustic direct in, I always use a mic. I’ve had a 3rd gen 18i20 for awhile now and I’ve been recording a vintage Martin D-35 through that with an audio-technica at2035. It sounds phenomenal even with an average mic, I’m thinking about going for a Royer R-10 at some point, I can only imagine how amazing that combination would sound
@OGM_OriginalGameMusic4 жыл бұрын
Gen 3 really sounds a bit louder and clearer. If you ow the vid down a bit and crank the volume up, you'll notice a tiny bit of noise in gen 2 and it just isn't there on gen 3. You've helped make my mind up. I'm upgrading!
@manuelpusong73904 жыл бұрын
i disagree. to me the gen 2 sounds clearer and more realistic. the gen 3 sounds a little distorted.
@mrtheluckybucket4 жыл бұрын
Manuel Pusong I mega disagree with that, gen 3 sounds incredibly clear compared to the 2nd gen in basically every way.

Let me ask this... does the difference really matter when you're going to EQ and volume set and add effects to both when put in a mix? In my opinion if you put similar chains on both of them in a DAW you wouldn't hear any difference at all. I think I'm more interested on if an interface is going to have enough preamp gain headroom to work with before noise is introduced
@mafw5572 Жыл бұрын
I own a 2gen Scarlett solo and a 3rd gen Scarlett solo, the 3rd gen sounds a bit more natural imo, the 2 a bit more artificial, both are great, is really subtle, with eq and effects you can't go wrong with any of them. i just sold the 3rd gen because i can sell it for more money, but i have to say it looks a little bit better
@andrewmvenegas4 жыл бұрын
The only difference I heard was when you switched from direct input to the mic. There is some bad distortion through the mic. “Air gate(?)” feature on or off, no difference. In your closing you mention that feature will affect vocals. No vocal comparison? Come on man? Sorry for sounding harsh. I love your videos.

Big difference in gain signal strength between the Gen2 and Gen3 with dials set in the same positions. Not much difference, if any, between "air" engaged or off. Would be inclined to call it marketing hype except there is a marked difference in signal strength between the Generations and this is a very nice audio interface. For your reference, I'm using a pair of Bose AE2 headphones. Just really didn't get the "Air" bit.

Gen 3 does sound a little clearer, which is nice. But, throw out my Gen 2 for a new Gen 3? Doesn't seem worth the $180, although Guitar Center is running a sale on the 2i2 3rd gen for $120. Hmmm....

If you already own a Gen 2, I don't think the air feature is enough reason for me to buy a Gen 3. Mind you I haven't played on a gen 3 so and from the videos I did notice a slight improvement in the mids. I am thinking i will pass on this version and wait for the next gen and see what additional features it has and will it be enough for me to move away from my Gen 2 unless someone can convince me otherwise.

Has anyone had an issue with the Scarlett Solo 2nd Gen just quit working and windows does not see the device? I reinstalled the driver and that didn't work. I have plugged it into every usb port on my computer but that did nothing. I plugged it into my son's laptop and it worked just fine, no problem. Ok, I plugged it into my son's laptop a second time and it doesn't work. I think it's shot or the usb cable is shot.

Yes it happened to my 2nd gen 2i4. Windows started duplicating the drivers after an update and it couldnt detect the correct one to use. So i finally ditched it and swapped to a SSL2+. Much happier now. Sold the 2i4 to someone else who was using a Mac and it worked just fine. Cheers - Dave
