😂 Ukulima sio Ushamba.... Swahili phrase means; "Farming is not unstylish or untrendy" for lack of a better word...it's one of those phrases that gets lost in translation. I'll explain. In Swahili Ukulima and Ushamba literally mean the same thing =Farming. However in local slang "Ushamba" is used to describe folks ( or their behavior) that are from a rural setting and are regarded as being backward, untrendy and have no clue about city life and fashion. In Kenya Farming is shunned upon by a majority of the " educated" who have white collar jobs. Parents or Teachers rarely encourage anyone to go into the agriculture sector but to pursue " the prestigious jobs" ( Engineering, Medical, Law etc). However, recently with the advent of social media, many are learning from other parts of the world that it's a very lucrative and rewarding career path.
