Everyone always thinks the tempo is held by the bass in an acoustic string band but it's really the person playing "rhythm" guitar, because it is much more audible (it's generally the only "midrange" instrument in the group) to the other musicians playing lead instruments. Super solid here. Not one millisecond of drift in the tempo from the first to the last note, and folks I'm here to tell ya as someone who has played for over 50 years now, keeping the tempo precise and steady in a 5 minute song of this sort, is quite an accomplishment. Quite an accomplishment indeed.

No special effects no electric instruments just pure raw talent and all are so in the grove. No one could take a place in this group they are so in tune with each other just a master piece
@gatoryak73324 ай бұрын
Did you know that these musicians have spent the majority of their lives on developing and refining the skills to play at this level? To call it "just pure talent" is insulting to high-level musicians. It dismisses the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice that they have invested into their craft.

not sure why this mountain music string band came up on a search for cajun music but i'm sure glad they did . . . i've become a fan through that search mishap . . . talented group . . . the bass player is the most smiling woman in the world and puts passion into playing the bass . . . the fiddle player is highly skilled . . . saw a video of him playing twin fiddle with Joel Savoy and it was a magnificent performance by both of them . . . Caleb is far more talented than any single song would suggest, capable of playing a wide variety of string instruments . . . it would not surprise me to see him playing any instrument including wind . . . i am quite fond of Reeb's vocal performances . . . she is a female power vocalist . . . not flamboyant but when you have actual talent you don't need visual distractions . . . she packs a punch, gets your attention and holds it.

The Dillards play Rueben’s Train. Go find and listen “Back Porch Bluegrass” , it beats all others.
@yateswebb4 жыл бұрын
Call it proto bluegrass. The Dillard’s play it bc it’s an old tune that goes back well before the advent of recorded music, and would have been very dance oriented. Bluegrass was invented, on the other hand, well after in the 40s/50s and was a very specific commercial product offered up by Monroe. Typically the litmus test lays in the three finger syncopated banjo style. And where bluegrass is more focused on improvisation, this older proto style is much more groove and dance oriented. But who gives a crap. Bluegrass/old time/folk... the lines are pretty blurry. It’s like subcategorizing bebop/hot jazz/etc under the umbrella of jazz. I just call it country music.
