I filed a FOIA to get material that I was going to use in a federal lawsuit, I needed the information in 5 months. The gov't took 6 months and only gave me a small amount, I appealed to the FOIA office and they agreed that I didn't get everything. By the time they sent me more information, it took almost 3 years, and they still didn't give me everything I wanted. Without the information, I really couldn't sue.

I went into my local police station today to try to file one anonymously. They told me numerous times that I was not allowed to unless I gave my information. I looked up the law and quoted it and now they have changed their tune but I still feel like they violated my rights to remain anonymous. I shouldn't have to look up a law and quote it before they will do their job properly

I read the law it says a name should be included, not shall be.. it is not required officially but the FOIA.gov says it's required and then sites a law that says it should be included, not shall be....

I go to a old school and it has bunkers under it but no one will say anything about them i. Know cause there are bunker signs still around i asked to know more about the bunkers and i was told that they dont think they are public recoreds should i act on this

@@CCK_Law can you suggest a way to get a hold of a DOT officer and Judge in Yuma Arizona? I've calmed every department numerous times. I want to plea bargain with the officer or fight the bogus ticket(no prosecutor there). I also want to ask the judge if I can record our proceedings as I've been overtalked and lectured about speeding by a judge in the past, when I could prove it was impossible. He wouldn't allow me to present my case because my proof was on Google maps instead of paper. I'm not a lawyer so I didn't know that but the judge should have still let me present my facts and/or appeal but he didn't.

Are you saying that all we need to do is write a letter to the department in question requesting information? Does this include writing my local city police station requesting an audio voice call made to them? Or is this only for Federal departments?

Dear CCK, I have a question related to a FOIA document that may be related to a friends employment. A document was located on the IRS website which appeared to as to the identity of the employer removed. What facts that are important are related to the questions raised, by the undisclosed employer as their identity was removed from the document but their reference was related to my research. The IRS response to the employer made reference to a retirement system that explained to the employer a series of answers pertaining to the employer’s Tier 1 or Old Plan and Tier 2, their New Plan. The employer requested that the IRS review their retirement plans section related to an incident by a Public Safety Officer, career ending Line of Duty Injury. The employer’s questions to the IRS were identical to the wording of a friend who was a Police Officer and suffered a career ending, Line of Duty Injury. The employer lost their career, lost their ability to earn for his family and in the end just wanted what the law allows, especially to maintain his family’s lifestyle which should not have additional suffering due to his work related injury. There is a plan to file a FOIA request for a document which he located on the IRS website, and ask to see the original response by the IRS to his employer with the didactic sections replaced with the identity of the employer. The person requesting the FOIA IRS document will be including their state issued photo identification and their employer issued photo identification to demonstrate to the IRS’s FOIS Agent that the referenced document does directly apply to them and the pension tiers described by the employer. So the question is, will the IRS release, via FOIA, minus the didactic section and actually naming the employe? Please respond to this question as we all await your FOIA information? Thank you 🙏! MC

I emailed a FOIA request December 4th 2019, they replied for me to fill out a form December 5th we talked about Simon return December 30th. It's now February 11th 2020 and I've not heard anything from my follow up emails. I emailed it to [e-mail] requesting my CSA score for truck driving via FMCSA. They don't have a phone number you can call for the freedom of information Act follow up to that email address. Do you have any tips on what to do next? Also, if you make a foia request about a specific government employee are they notified?

clarkewi I’m sorry, but no. As far as I understand FOIA, that’s not really a good avenue for you. They have no duty to conduct an investigation to find what files you need, and you can only request information that is public records. My advice: find someone along the lines of an investigator for this. Your request requires further research and that’s just the kind of job that investigators with access to public records do.
