I have a background in traditional hotstamp with magnesium and copper dies in the label and packaging industries. I am fascinated by doing toner receptive foiling from home. Is there any way to secure the foil to the substrate to eliminate the wrinkles?

We were printing onto Black card 250 grams...generally Toner foiling is done on paper and card, if you want to foil onto hard covers you would have to consider a HOT FOIL PRINTING machine, this process will require some skill and you do need to have a die made {metal plate} made each time you want to foil an image...this is how conventional foil printing is done, whereas Toner foil printing is a relatively simple process printing onto photocopied images.

Hot stamping foil and Toner foils are different, if you use Hot Stamping Foil on a laminator it will stick where it is not supposed to because the adhesive layer at the back of the foil is designed to stick to paper, Toner foils will only stick to toner because the adhesive layer is designed to stick to plastic...Toner is made up of 55% plastic particles {Polystyrene}....so the foil is no good for paper so it does not stick to it, only a plastic surface {Toner}..regards Dr G the foil printing specialist {KZbin}
