When I was 17 years of age I was down the street from the concord California airport i saw a biplane landing the next day it came out in the newspaper that the plane landed when the FAA man met the plane and asked how come you did not use the radio to land .the man replied they did not have radio back then after inspection of his license it was issued by Orville right the FAA at that time Orville was the instructor too License #1 the man was 96 years old . And not fined for not calling. into the towers for landing instructions. His biplane was made by the right brothers it was like he flew out of portal in time and landed with he's leather cap goggles and white scarf around his neck .True story. I will never forget that.

I thought at first this was a monster rc plane. I was going to comment that if the builder built it a tad bigger he could fly in it himself. Good to see someone with sense. Beautiful plane!

I just stumbled on your channel. Amazing. I knew a guy 40 yrs or so ago in Ft Worth TX area that built by hand with little more than photos, and a few technical docs here and there a DR-1, a D VIII, Nieuport 28, Sopwith Camel and a Bleriot plus others in the works. The Bleriot unfortunately took his life on first flight. Was powered with a LeBlond 5 cylinder radial. It was a bit tail heavy - engine quit shortly after takeoff and resultant stall spin. Wonder if by chance you knew him. Would have been back in the early 80's. Blakesburg, IA fly-in was an annual trip... One-of-a-kind guy. Always joked if you gave him 2 coffee cans, he'd made an engine out of it.

Unfortunately, I never meet the man you are talking about. The DR1 start issue was solved, it was sent to a second expert, and corrected it. last I saw it fly was 3 years ago, planing on going to their next event.. they were building a full scale SPAD XIII, will be great to see the DR1, Sopwith Pup and SPAD dog fighting.

I love all those WWl aircraft, but the Dr 1 is just so clean looking for it's time. Can't help but love that little, a few more horsepower plane, away from domination..

I prefer the Sopwith Camel to the tri-plane! I would prefer an E-start too😄

I think the pilot forgot to switch it on. Once it's going, very very nice.

The Magneto had been rebuilt, but had a weak magnet giving low spark at arm turn over speed, it was later sent out, and new magnets installed, starts first blip 9 of 10 times now...

Nice video! But why on earth did you skip the takeoff and landing?
@BigWolfBoy506 жыл бұрын
He takes off and lands, down the back side of a small hill, away from view, where they start it...there are few others I did post of different times there with takeoff's and landings.. close by, there often

yea, when this vid shot, the rebuilt Mag was not putting out max volts on the plug type at hand prop speeds.., that was corrected later in the year and it is a 1 or 2 flip now.

How could you spend that much time on starting the engine and MISS the Takeoff and Landing? Not very good here.

i can't imagine having to spend 5 minutes each time to hand start our gasoline / petrol cars ; )

After 5 min of frustratingly watching the futile attempt to start the Fokker , I gave up.
