This TIE variant was developed during the downfall of the Empire. As The Imperial Navy lost more and more decisive battles against the rebels, it was agreed among tacticians that the standard TIE Fighter needed a modification to help it operate without the support of a larger capital ship. The TIE Outlander wings fold and it has retractable landing gear. With the ability to now land on planet surfaces and on rough terrain, fighter squadrons could refuel and resupply in small independent factions. This seemingly small modification allowed remnants of the fleet to operate effectively in the Outer Rim for many more years.

Great MOC, but it looks slightly too narrow. The wings just seem too close to the cockpit. Maybe it's just me though. Did anyone else have this thought?

Nice design! Even if the TIE Outlander doesn't make too much sense from a space-saving costs perspective (they take up even more space when landed due to the increased wing surface area), it does follow the rule of cool.

This Tie-Fighter gave ma hope that the Mandalorian won’t connect with the sequel trilogy because if the empire invented foldable wings for tie fighter they would use them for better storage of them and they could fit more of them in hangar bags. I still cling on to my hope.
