The new outfeed for my table saw needed a few minor upgrades, like making a quick release handle to drop it down instead of trying to find the release buttons blindly from above, it also needed some mitre slots and I gave it a brown coat of dye coloring to help the tone match my steel table saw deck and makes for a great extra workbench.

I will continue to wrestle with the problem. I have a Grizzly contractor-style saw. I don't need to upgrade. It is perfectly adequate for my hobby woodshop; but most of the "hacks" that I see for both out-feed tables AND dust collection are geared to cabinet-type saws. My saw has the motor cantelevered out the back side with a drive-belt exposed. There is no good way to close up the escape route for some of the dust OR to attach an outfeed table to the saw itself. And for my saw, I need access to the interior of the saw to give the trunions a very thorough cleaning now and then. So I can't obstruct that access. HHMM! Maybe I DO need to upgrade!

brilliant outfeed table Colin mate.. Love the simplicity of it and I will probably look into doing something like this myself bcos my workshop is only going to be 16x10 so I need to make use of every bit of affordable space. I have a mitre saw and a Bench drill too. I also have a jointer/Thicknesser and I was wondering should I build a small workstation for the saw and drill? I'm also looking at getting a Mortiser down the line so should I build the station with that in mind? Apologies for the questions but I like to get some advice from people like ur good self mate. As always I enjoy these videos bcos u explain stuff clearly.. Thanks and salute from Dublin, Ireland

I like your outfeed design and I'm currently in the process of adding one of these to my table saw. I was considering making my outfeed table out of glued up double layer of 3/4" plywood, rather than just a single layer to make it bit sturdier, so it doesn't have a tendency to sag in the middle or droop on the ends. Have you had any of these issues on your outfeed table?

You are a clever man Colin. A fairly simple mechanism. But, you had to think it out. It must give you (and all creators/inventors) a real feeling of accomplishment when you solve a problem to make life easier. One can never explain it to 'non-creative' people. It just goes show that 'necessity is the mother of all invention'. Great idea. Almost like a hood release on a car. I want to get a smaller set of those locking hinges for my miniature table saw. It would help me greatly.

What kind of plywood do you typically use for an out feed table and various jigs? Lots of the big box store ply is warped. I need to check my local menards, they have some 9ply birch and 13ply. Looking to keep things on the reasonable side, but understand this and the jigs if done right should last a really long time.

Great update, Colin! Question about the original build...What keeps the self tapping screws in place? Did you put something on the inside of the table saw? You screwed them through the wood verticals then the sheet metal of the saw, but they won't work their way out?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you can brew up some black tea or coffee extra dark (leave the tea/coffee in the hot water until it completely cools for maximum extraction) in place of dye. It will penetrate the wood well and not leave an oily residue. The big plus to this method is no additional purchase required if you are a coffee/tea drinker. (Since you are not drinking it, you can even use some old tea/coffee grounds previously brewed - you will just need to use a LOT more as most of the tannin has already been extracted.)
@knecht105

I've never even heard of tea being used as a stain, so this is one you'll have to test on your own, John. Thanks for watching!
