In the spring, I use henbit weeds. In the summer, I use comfrey. Haven't used seaweed as I don't live close to the ocean. Not really worried about it but I think it's a good idea.

I saved weeds in a 10 gallon bucket for about a month and a half and I filled it with water like you said and capped it and let it sit for two months. Then I siphoned it off into 1 gallon milk jugs and capped them. I got 10 gallons of one hundred percent fertilizer. I haven’t used any of it yet but I can’t wait, I’m very excited!

I been doing hydropinics recently. I use the masterblend nutrients. So had some leftover and decided to mist my plants with it. They exploded with dark lush green leaves the next day. Was impressed.

yes I started foliar feeding this year, and saw a big yield in onions, leeks, beans cabbage, l used compost tea and miracle grow. never tried it on my potatoes, but next year I'm foliar feeding them too. to me now its a no brainer as it makes a huge difference and often you can see a difference over night

In my experience, onions respond the best to foliar feeding. They never seem to burn, or anything, just get massive.

Cool video, I've considered foliar feeding... perhaps with a pump sprayer to cover lots of real estate quickly. I was kinda waiting until I start vermicomposting, however... worm casting tea was what I was going to use (and worms are 15 or 16 projects away still) I love that you garden in the middle of the night :) I'm a night owl, and much prefer doing things in the evening... but alas my garden is 100 yards from the house... and is therefore not electrified. So instead I use the magic twilight hours. I wait until the sun is sideways, slanted through the trees, and less intense. F@#! the sunrise. I have better things to do... like sleep :)

Yeah, that's what I use. I have backpack sprayer and two fillings of it does my entire farm. I only do that twice per crop rotation so its like once every 2 months. Works out great! I am a TOTAL night owl! Morning is literally for the birds!!!

Hey Dan, later in the season you can run into issues if the water doesn't dry up in time or your airflow is bad. June, July, August seem to be just fine.

Hi Jeff, I love this exercise. It's so enchanting under the moonlight sky. I'm folia spraying using seaweed fertilizer 1:100 strength. Is that correct? The spinach lettuce have grown within 4 days -- doubled. Incredible!!! The basil starters seem to have freaked... their leaves (mature) were curling.. and today baby new growth is yellowing... grr.. The rhurbarb I coukd see no difference but the leaves feel more leathery... I was testing. On the flowers, they didn't like it (petunia). Blueberries didn't seem to like it. They went harder red like... rather than plump blue... but worth try. Next is lemon tree, grapefruit tree. Is here any plant that doesn't like folio spray using seaweed?

I would like to learn more about foliar feeding my plants but I'm all about feeding my soil microbiology. My understanding is, with the help of mycorrhizal fungi, the roots communicate with the soil biology (if its there) and call up whatever nutrients the plant needs at that time.

Most definitely Bill! Feed the soil and you'll always have the best plants! Foliar feeding is a great SUPPLEMENT to an active, healthy soil profile. It's great in times of stress and times of transition like early germination or transplanting. I'd never use it as a replacement for having the best soil possible! Great point man.

@@TheRipeTomatoFarms I've just gotten into biological gardening. My real interest and goal is growing soil with diverse microbial life. Also, my first year gardening ever. My base soil was a compost from the local Missouri program. Came off the truck hot and steaming. To that I added things like Azomite, a little biochar(charged), fish bone meal, kelp, etc. I let it all set over last winter. That fall I also planted rye grass seed inoculated with Mycorrhazial hoping to get that root symbiosis established, my experimental idea. In the spring I just cut the rye down and left the roots in. Interesting I had a thick mat of spongy roots I planted into. Planted standard veggies like tomatoes, cucumbers green peppers etc. Everything started slow because of our extremely wet spring but now has gone bunkers. I might add I added a mulch layer of wood chips(various size chips) which has broken down into beautiful organic matter. Not put into soil. I really recommend this, holds moisture and zero weeding. I wasn't really sure what to expect being new but really no tomato diseases to speak of and clusters of tomatoes.

@@billwilson7383 Cover crops can be amazing. Especially if, when you cut them down, put the foliage (which has taken the bulk of the nutrients out of the soil profile) back in as a mulch. I haven't tried rye too many times, just when I was getting the greenhouse beds started, but I may set aside 4 beds this winter for a fall rye setup and weed control. Anyways, I've watched your microscope videos and they are great and the knowledge you are building is impressive!

If you use Yucca extract it will take the buoyancy from the water and it will lay flat on the leaf no beads no magnifying glass you could spray it in the morning so you don’t risk plant molding

Yes, the results are great. It feeds micronutrients, but not significant npk. It also has growth harmones. So, great. I use it regularly.

Once fruit has been set, I would not fertilize anymore unless you're in a hydroponic setup.

All plants have stomata. You might have to spray them from below, rather than on the waxy cuticle of the leaf, but I haven't met a plant yet that can't absorb through its leaves. Cheers!

Depends on the plants and the goals. For my veggie plants like tomatoes and cucumbers, I'll do it twice in their lifetime. Once when they are about a foot tall, before transplanting, and then again a month later or so for one final blast of growth before fruiting. For cannabis, I'll foliar feed every 2nd week until about 2 weeks before budding... Then I'll stop any fertilizing completely. Cheers man!

I spray mine every two weeks throughout the growing season until my plants are producing fruit. You could do it weekly, I guess, but like TRTF says, you need to be careful that you don't burn your plants by using too much in your mix. Blessings!

I have a tendency to clog my pump sprayer nozzles, when using micronized Azomite. So, I will just dust the azomite in the planting hole, the entire soil ball @ transplanting and then thinly top dress the soil after planting. No more clogged nozzles!

@@bbunderson that's an awesome question. Seaweed contains a ton of essential micro nutrients, minerals, and growth compounds found no where else. But in terms of the big macro nutrients.... It's not what it's for. Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, magnesium, calcium, etc.... Those are the big growth guys and you'll find them in good organic compost. Seaweed perfectly compliments a disciplined organic compost and mulching regimen. Gardens are usually lacking the "stuff" in seaweed extracts... And not the stuff found in commercial chemical ferts. :)

Hey Stephen, I usually foliar feed 2-3 times in a vegetable plant's life cycle. One very early in after germination... To set the plant up right. Another right after transplanting... Either to a garden bed or larger pot to give them that extra boost and because roots haven't fully branched out yet. I'll do a third one about a month before harvest if the plant needs it, but never right before harvest as I try to flush the plants a bit at that time. Cheers, thanks for watching!

I should add Stephen, this applies to Cannabis as well. Once early when you get a clone (no one is doing seeds), once again with the transplanting to bigger pots, then again about a month before harvest. Now what you foliar feed WITH, is also important, and can change based on the life stage of the plant, and the type of plant!

@@bbunderson With an organic foliar mix, you can't over feed your plants. It won't harm them at all. I wouldn't worry about that. But when I am about to harvest a crop, I stop fertilizing it about a week prior. Its a process called "flushing". Cannabis growers do it as well.

So what happens when it rains during the day and then is followed but intense heat and sun? Do the leaves burn? Watering during the day and and water turning into laser beams on leaves are old wives tales. Plenty of documented peer reviewed information readily available. Please do your research before making comments. Foliar feeding although is great to do at night is also the worst time do it when worried about mold or fungus. That being said, your tomatoes look beautiful.

I had rain during the day followed by sun, and later there many circles burnt in the leaves. Mostly it doesnt really matter, because your plants are accustomed to a lot of sun, so they do not always burn. So these are no old wives tales. Although you actually can spray the leaves in the sun, but if you are unlucky, it may burn pretty bad.
