I was listening to lute music this morning and just typed in "shredding rock lute" on a lark and this came up. Peter Beverly says the musician's name is Alexey Arkhipovskiy and some others wrote that he was playing a balalaika, which I never heard of. I looked him up on Wikipedia which says the instrument is a balalaika (I think lutes have those weirdly bent necks), a Russian instrument. Kate Lucas wrote that she thinks it is a Russian folk tune called Vanya, but I couldn't verify that. All I really know is that I love it and will look for more.
