When the Moon still was young and the mountains were tall In the realm of the Tuatha De Danann, My delight was the sound of the hammer and forge Shaping bronze into weapons of war When the Heroes of Dawn put the giants to the sword Strong was Cuchulain and shining was Lugh They would sing to the wind with a falcon at their fist Hymns of Gaelic valor I remember the day when their ships filled the sea And the emblems of Rome hid the sky, When the ninth legion marched to subdue the Red Queen And the sons of the Goddess Danann Then the Heroes of Dawn put the Romans to the sword Strong like Cuchulain and shining like Lugh They would fight skyclad, and to please the Morrigan Die for Gaelic valor Now the Moon's in eclipse and the skies breed a storm O'er the realm of the Tuatha De Danann, My lament shall be heard for the fires ashen cold And the anvils resounding no more Now the Heroes of Dawn sleep in mounds underground Cuchulain forgotten - forgotten is Lough, Who shall sing to the wind, shed his tears to fill the sea For the lost Gaelic valor?

here is the easy version for our friends beyond the atlantic ocean: gauls and gaels are celtic. celts and germans are indogermanic. their languages are from the same root. they share religious believes, the same historic enemy (rome) as well as similar cultural traditions. germanic and celtic are just generic names for lots of different tribes. the ethnic coherences are much more complicated. every tribe has its own story to tell. however this song is about spokesmen of the gaelic language.

I remember to read this somewhere,Helvetia resisted for some more centuries, until surrounded by the Roman Empire, and "Magna Germania",they eventually joined efforts with the germanic tribes to fight Rome expansionism, and ended assimilated,by romans and germanics,at the same time. History is full of surprises.

But its those more in depth and complicated schematics that make it so interesting to look at all those believes, and learn about them. Every one was different, yet to a degree they got along better then any group of people that large and diverse ever will in history. They are a wonderful story to go into.

They sure had a presence in those regions, however their culture, was assimilated by others, like the nordic culture, already present there, and probably by the incoming of the warlike Aryan Kurgan culture(from Northern Russia/Poland/Ukraine)they assimilated the kelts not only in Scandinavia, they also pushed south into today´s Germany, assimilating even the places where the keltic culture emerged from the pre keltic ones (Hallstatt culture) like,Austria, and Bavaria.

Celtic culture in the bronze age and early iron age was probably what American culture is now. It was taken over by other peoples, who were ethnically not necessarily celtic. This is probably what happened to the British Isles too. The Welsh, Scots, Manx and Irish all speak a Celtic language, while DNA research using remains of Celts in the cradle of the Celtic civilisation shows they are not related to eachother.

@ThatOneSentinel Care to explain what Gauls have to do with Gaels, and what either have to do with Germans? And why Gauls and Germans are relevant to a song about Gaels?
